I particularly love the distance travelled in a month by the Mail's Jason Groves, from "living in the past" to "old school values".

If a large asteroid was hurtling towards Earth, their response would be to call it a socialist rock, cut inheritance taxes ahead of extinction, lower benefits, blame France, deregulate rockets, and privatise all spaceports.

Apparently "Kemi" has "fresh solutions" uniquely tailored to Britain's current problems. <excitedly prepares to take notes> Cut taxes, reward the wealthiest, punish the poor and sick, alienate our allies, deregulate big business, and privatise any remaining state function. WAAAAAAIT A MINUTE!

For a lot of us Labour won't go far enough. But at least they will try. So next time you hear them complain about early release or long trial waits, they caused it all.

Rishi Sunak was warned the prison systems would collapse if he didn't start letting people out early, but he refused because he wanted to call an early election. Every one of them heaped up the problems that the Labour government are trying to fix.

Failing Grayling then went on to try to privatise the probation service. This was also a disaster. And that's just 3 off the top of my head. Just imagine all the lives he's ruined. Chris Grayling is now a member of the house of lords. And he gets lots of money from corporate interests.

And of course they got rid of legal aid. As a direct consequence, innocent people went to jail, because they couldn't afford a defence. And guilty people walked free. I'm sure I read later that it actually cost more in the end too. And this is when the Tories were relatively competent.

It was originally Ken Clarke with something of a reforming agenda, but Murdoch didn't like that so in went Failing Grayling. Straight away he banned books.

The party that put Failing Grayling in charge of our justice system at the behest of Rupert Murdoch should probably not say anything about the justice system. At the time people estimated the damage Grayling inflicted would take decades to fix.

I should add I never harass anyone about their food choices. And when I ate meat nobody did it to me. But once you stop eating meat, people think they have a duty to get right up in your business.

Zander @zans.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
You get a lot of grief for not eating meat. One of the things you often get is that if nobody ate meat we'd have to kill all our animals. Given that's what we think you do anyway, that's not really the powerful argument you think it is.

“The question is not whether we can afford to remain within the Convention [ECHR]. It is whether, in an increasingly dangerous world, we can afford not to” Political liars and lightweights, like Badenoch and Farage, must never be allowed to take that risk. www.lawgazette.co.uk/commentary-a...
The Law Society
Gazette

In short, if Britain were to leave the ECHR, it would not be
'taking back control. It would be surrendering influence over the rules and institutions that help keep us safe.
The debate about the ECHR is too often conducted as though it were a choice between national sovereignty and international law. That is a false choice.
The Convention advances British interests because it reflects British values: liberty under law, democratic government and the accountability of power.
Walking away would not make Britain freer. It would make Britain weaker.
