In Gunmetal Gods, it's better not to travel. Stay on your placid island of ignorance. Don't venture, lest you find the meaning you crave. As Lovecraft said, “The most merciful thing is the inability of the human mind to correlate its contents." New Dark Drinker Art! Link👇

Every book of mine has a scene where someone pierces the veil and glimpses the world of the gods. Those scenes are hard to imagine, let alone draw. For that I turn to Shimhaq. His creation is gloriously maddening. "The First Forest" from the Dark Drinker Ultimate Edition.

Gunmetal Gods by Zamil Akhtar @zamakhtar.bsky.social Game of Thrones meets Arabian Nights with some cosmic horror sprinkled on top. Tbh I got it mostly for the cosmic horror which took a little while to be added to the mix, but I have the sequels ordered now nonetheless.

First Goodreads review: "I’ve read a lot of grimdark over the past 3 years and it has been ages since I’ve felt the genuine disgust I felt with some of the characters in this book, and I wouldn’t change a thing about them. My top read of the last 6 months."

Zamil Akhtar @zamakhtar.bsky.social · 19/01/2026

What the hell is this book about? It's about a murderer who hunts murderers. One day, a woman he wants to kill begins telling him stories to prolong her life, just like in Arabian Nights. Except the stories are full of biblically accurate angels and cosmic horror. It is mental.

One of the best things I get to do as an author, in this age of cynical exploitation of AI, is spend a lot of my earnings paying artists to make me truly one-of-a-kind illustrations filled with heart and soul.
