Is it possible to GIFT the hat to a certain deserving recipient?

One of the things I love getting to do is cook for my friends. Another big round of batch cooking underway for friends with a new bub:

I am shocked, SHOCKED to hear that that egg companies are once again operating in a cartel-like manner, next you’re going to tell me petrol stations engage in anti-competitive price fixing?

Good prospects for a new state referendum when you can’t even pass membership for state registration

Had to take professional photos today and I remembered how totally uninterested I’ve always been in the concept of modelling. You feel like an absolute piece of meat the whole time.

‘We don’t have capital punishment’ is a pretty fundamental point of differentiation and pride for Australians in comparison to the US, there isn’t really a useful voter cohort you need to appease or might lose elsewhere by being mealy mouthed over this. JOYCE is anti.

Incredible that the Libs can’t even find their spine over this, when every other party is basically discussing the situation as ‘obviously this should not be broadcast; how to get on the front foot about it’

Like I’m personally bitter because not only do I use the Woolies there, I use the Woolies food court, most of whom won’t survive the relocation at their current pricing (if at all) But I’m still confused what the vision is? Giving the Friday no-longer-Assange protestors more space to annoy people?

Horrified obviously, but it has occurred to me that eSafety would require platforms hosting the footage to block it in Australia, I would think. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Pentagon says execution of Fort Hood shooter will be livestreamed
Nidal Hasan, army psychiatrist who killed 13 people, will be executed by firing squad on 3 December

Putting aside all of the ethical issues with execution. Both of those aspects feel like pretty big lumps to swallow for people who are enthusiastic about the prospect, and in terms of recruiting volunteers for said firing squads.

Beth @zahri.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Okay here’s two serious questions about a livestream of a public execution: 1. Are you going to anonymise the executioners and if so how? 2. Firing squads traditionally have a blank; how does this interact with video footage where you potentially can trace bullet paths

I’m so disappointed with the Greens today, and what’s more I’m confused how pandering to tankies wins them votes that weren’t already sitting with them. I’m pretty sure it’s a net negative policy in terms of shifting voters for them, in fact.

Fortunately the Australian Greens have 125 elected local councillors and mayors, as well as 31 state government and 11 federal MPs, so they’ve already done the work you’re demanding.

David Shoebridge won the Greens leadership vote on first preferences, but the party announced the two-candidate-preferred result anyway. Gotta love the commitment to ranked choice voting

That’s council for you though - cheap and easy enough to run for so that you get a lot of folk wanting to run over issues that aren’t their responsibility or lack of awareness of what council actually does

It’s a joy to watch as a show BECAUSE it’s pretty authentically low budget and ‘welp we just used the access these two people have’ and they bounce off each other so well, but WOW is it ever South Australian Class Politics writ large on the screen

Maggie feels very much the one larping ‘humble farm wife’ poorly while actually clearly having a multi million dollar lifestyle, while Simon’s a rough around the edges professional who worked his way up from the bottom and is far more willing to try new-to-him ideas.

Extremely lukewarm take, but I’ve been rewatching old episodes of the Cook and the Chef as background viewing while finishing some knitting, and the class politics of Simon Bryant as a working class trained chef vs Maggie Beer as a very upper middle class primary producer ‘cook’ is fascinating.

That hat arrived on their doorstep by express post the morning they came home from the hospital in the middle of Canberra winter. Baby 1 NEEDED a snuggly hat that fit!

Knitting a baby hat for my best friend for her second kid, and I was seriously questioning myself on the size, after I’d had to do an emergency evening knit after the first kid arrived TINY and was too small for any of the hospital hats. Kid’s measuring large on the latest scan. Standard it is.

50/50 on late night buses whether the driver waits for you to sit down or takes off as soon as you’ve tapped on. Truly a classic experience of firmly grabbing poles as you rush down the bus to a seat just in case.

“What’s your position on the Kosciusko Wild Horse Heritage Management Plan” is such an easy litmus test for left wing parties over their level of kookiness and willingness to embrace reality. The more they tie themselves up in knots over this, the less ready they are for actual difficult issues.

Good to see. If ever there was a feral animal that’s achievable to completely remove from the wild, it’s brumbies, and it’s a pity the program cannot go for full elimination, but the current cull methods are so far superior and effective at management than anything else proposed.

Yeah it’s been interesting watching all the journos pull out the Roberts and Hanson stories that they could have run any time in the last decade or more, but didn’t get any attention then. The dirt units have had 3 decades to dig, they must have some fun stuff waiting.

Yeah this is where a fair discussion would look at percentages both in terms of how many seats held by a party and the demographic profile of those seats. It’d be like crying that the majority of farming grants went to Nationals-held seats without that analysis.
