Delighted to be at @zahidmubarektrust.bsky.social's 'Race in Prisons' conference today, and hear Prisons Minister JamesTimpson acknowledge the stark race inequality in the youth justice system, and the need for ambitious action to address it.

The #artwork featured at the @zahidmubarektrust.bsky.social conference on race was every bit as thought provoking as the words spoken during the workshops Seeing the talent of people in secure settings always makes me think how much society has failed; that we didn’t nurture this #creativity sooner

Portrait of a black woman painted in blue, red, orange, yellow, pink, white and black.

Painting of the eyes and nose of a young brown woman with the colours of green, orange, yellow and blue reflected in her irises.

Pencil drawing in grey and white of a prison landing. On the floor are written the words,

NOT EVERYONE MAKES DECISIONS, REACTS TO CIRCUMSTANCES OR DEALS WITH THEIR ISSUES THE SAME.

IF YOU’VE MADE BAD CHOICES GRAVE OR SMALL
DO YOU FOREFIT THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT RIGHT OR BETTER?

PRISON IS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF HUMAN POTENTIAL AND A WASTED CHANCE TO TURN FLAWED POPLE INTO A BENEFIT TO SOCIETY.

OR LEAVE US TO ROT FOR THE REAPER?

In the corner of the painting is the bottom of the cloak of the grim reaper.

Illustration of a grey robot holding a pink balloon. The grey backdrop is splattered with paint in red, yellow, orange and black.
