My nostalgic fave are the famous "crabstick" (this is why these subs are called that) subs of Mazinger Z and the other Toei robot anime. My set of the movies called them Mazinger "Omnipotent Armored Knight" and Getter Robo "Gate Robot" and I still think of those names all the time.

I really loved the little towns in the Mega Man Zero (and ZX) games. For as much grief as people gave them for being on odd fit for the series, as video game towns-qua-video game towns they were universally excellent.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I remember the day my friends were like, "We hate IRC and we're going to stop coming here because Discord is better." I was the last hold out because I had like four IRC chats I hung out in. Within a week of following them to Discord I never opened mIRC ever again. Nobody wants multiple chat apps

I find it really annoying when I see captions that are censored while the spoken audio isn't. Isn't that, like, disrespectful to the hearing impaired? Why do things swing in this direction, and this direction only? It feels like the odds of "fuck" being bleeped in audio but typed out are 0.

Carpenter Brut's hour long follow up is criminally under discussed. It's not quite as immaculately distilled as Turbo Killer, but if you're on the right level, then it's precisely calibrated to worm it's way into your psyche and set up a nest. letterboxd.com/z_ace/film/b...

Since I'm a prof that teaches this stuff: the enemy is a public school experience and an outside culture that says everything has a right and wrong answer. People don't try to analyze b/c they’re scared or anxious about “getting it wrong” (or “getting a bad grade“) and it extremely sucks.

i read Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, which made me think about semiotics. and when i think about semiotics, naturally, i think about Nancy

a comic that adapts a chapter of Invisible Cities in the style of a Nancy comic.

it is titled "Invisible Nancies", "after Bushmiller & Calvino", and covers "Cities & Signs 4".

Nancy walks into a candy shop in the city of Hypatia.

Nancy is confused, seeing only a sleeping dog inside the shop.

she says "I feel cheated--I'm going to talk to the mayor", walking to the city hall.

she reacts in shock as she only finds a convict in a cell behind the mayor's desk.

Nancy says "something's up--maybe the librarian knows what", walking to the library.

in the library, she finds Sluggo eating an ice-cream cone. she asks him "where's the librarian?" to which he replies "out there", pointing to a playground outside.

the librarian, sitting in the playground, tells Nancy "signs form a language, but not the one you think you know"

Nancy says "I think I'm getting it" while heading to a barn

Stepping out of the barn holding some candy, Nancy says "I could go for some music"

Nancy enjoys music coming from a mausoleum in a cemetery while sitting on a gravestone.

She walks away, saying "now I need to hitch a ride out of here--I know just the place"

Nancy is standing on top of a skyscraper, waiting for a car

It's telling that most YouTubers I know have reacted to the idea of this with utter *exasperation* lol. We like having the option to A/B test titles and thumbnails after having spent so long on PMG videos, but this ceaseless push towards data-driven optimization makes me want to crumble into dust.

A social media post from the YouTube Creators account, detailing a new feature coming to the platform. It reads:

"stop guessing what hooks your audience 🎣 with video A/B testing, you can test up to 3 edits of a Short or video simultaneously. review the stats, pick the clear winner, and seamlessly lock it in as your video.

launching to select creators in 2027."
