I blindly bought a WiFi antenna for my Linux machine. While I waited it to arrive I checked solutions to make it work. When I plugged it in nothing happened. Not a sound, not a pop up. But it worked instantly in the little network icon next to the clock.

And I had to update my budgeting app. I found one last bug that was introduced when I set up security. I just banned every inline styles. It broke the budget view. It is a shame you can not put nonce in HTML tags to let inline styles to be in them. So now I let inline styles globally.

I am done. Here is my small budgeting software that is made by me for me. This is the bare minimum a budgeting app needs, and the maximum I need. I made it because using sheets is convoluted and budgeting apps are overkill for me. This is just what I needed. github.com/akosnikhazy/...

I added a bunch of security to the budgeting app. Login tries are limited now. As I use inline scripts now it has nonce and headers doesn't let any other inline script to run, and I missed some CSRF fields too at some pages. I left all this to the end, because everything else needed to be set.

I finished my budgeting app and started using it. While using it, I found some UX problems, which I weeded out. Once I'm comfortable using it, my next step will be to read my code, clean it up, comment it properly, release it, and forget about it.

It is so funny to write a blog nobody reads. I keep up a server, have a domain for it. Develop tech in WordPress so it works how I want it to be. I write out my opinions in long text, so I post less on any social media. Other than the fact that I pay for it: is great.

I said I was done then implemented an aftertaught "today budget" thing. I might make a bar thing for that too, but I do not see the point. Daily spending is food and entertainment mostly. So it is good to see how much you can spend given day.

I find this normal? I mean nothing have to last forever. People do want to play new games. Things like this happen because live games want all the money and all the time of all the people. And that just can not happen. People find new stuff to play.

Also this is "delete" only in name. Actually it puts a datetime value in the "transaction_discarded" field and the software doesn't count or render those not null.

I made the delete after all. If you delete transactions the amount_total updates. But it also keeps the history of transactions so it can be followed up. Also if a transactions was move between two accounts (two transactions) it deletes both.

I am not sure if I want to put transaction deletion in the software. It is a difficult thing to do, as I have a table for the current amount too. Feels dangerous. It would be easier to make a "fix" category. But that is messy data. Yet to decide. But I am also so close to release.

Call me a cynic but I am sure in #residentevilrequiem you can not wear the wristband items (hence taking up inventory space) because both characters wears real world Hamilton watches they want to sell to you. So nothing else can be on their wrists by contract.

I added export button to the ledger. Also the menu looks so much better on phones now. And I made the input field's minimum to be 0.00000001. I do not use crypto but if someone wants to budget that: feel free. So close to the finish line. I do not think any more functionality needed.

I added a database download and a database backup functionality for my budgeting app. Every login it makes a backup and keeps the last 10 backups.

And now it looks much better. At least I like it much better. Selected a more bearable red and green. Also I added the wants vs needs bar.

Yesterday I made the budget bars. I started out by javascripting the table to bars. But realized it is more accessible if I render the bars with the same template data. They are green under 80% reaching the budget limit. Also I do not break them down at 100 but CSS overflow:hidden solves it.

Another small fix for my budgeting software: now savings category doesn't got to wants neither needs. It is its own category after all. I might type the accounts and make a saving type instead? I want this simple, but I learn so much about money because of this.

Now the budgeting software have account management. Users can add, edit and disable accounts. Disabled accounts still showing up in the list when making a transaction, but that will be an easy one line fix.

When you make table thead HTML you either this or you put the column labels in one line. Both are ugly. I like this better because I see everything at once. But people said to me it is harder to imagine how it will look this way. And I get that. My engine puts the whole HTML in one line at the end

I tough about language support for my budgeting app, but most of the text is in a json file already, the remaining ones are in the HTML templates. It will be open source. So if someone wants it in their own language it is very doable. I might add it later tho. If I add it, it will be a setting.

This weekend was productive. A photoshoot and making web design for my financial software. I broke the 4 colour rule and I use an eggshell white for form panels. Also I made the tables pretty spacious. I might make a separate compact view for printing data.

Last year I bought a #PlayStation 3 and MGS4 for less than MGS Collection Vol 1. I missed out of MGS4 for 17 years at that point. I watched it as a long movie several times. But playing it was a blast! It is still a good game. To play MGS4 in 4k...? Will buy it again, against my better judgement.

Also I changed a bunch of things in the app. I am really playing with the idea to make budget categories dynamic. For example I have "savings" category. But that "s" at the end of the word calls for diversification in categories. Not that I have savings. But the app needs it.

This weekend I finished the settings page for my budgeting software and set it up so the budget calculates transactions only in accounts that have a base currency. Later I might let the user have multiple budgets for multiple currencies. But for now it is just enough.

This weekend I built the budget part of the software. For now the user can create budgets, but only one is active. It calculates from monthly spending by category on the fly. For small one user stuff it is quite enough. The problematic thing is different currencies.

My budgeting financial software finally have all the base functionality: I can post transactions and move money between accounts. All this with a table for sums at the moment of transaction so it is fast when I need a sum. What it still needs is a budgeting solution. Web design and settings.

So Photoshop now works on Linux well with compatibility layer. Just when I switched to Affinity and payed for it just when it went free and AI. So I still have to dual boot Windows to use the Affinity I payed for and avoid slop machine.

The adventure continues as I can not sync my www-data owned database with github because git have no right to delete the database. #Linux is joy. All this because I am strict about having a low level local user account for daily use instead of using admin acc like it is the fashion on Windows.

I am on the brink of finishing my recent application. So I am close to start my new game project. But I daily switch between 2-3 ideas I want to make. Godot is the engine that is for sure. I still have time to decide, meanwhile I watch tutorials and refresh my GScript knowledge.

Linux can be an adventure. Install apache, install php try pdo. Oh... no driver. Ok sudo nano php.ini, uncomment it. Still no driver. Install sqlite3. Can not read database file. Ok chown www-data:www-data. Now it works. I have no idea how I would know all this without StackOverflow.
