WebAssembly from the Ground Up @wasmgroundup.com · 10/03/2025
Excited to announce the official launch of our online book, WebAssembly from the Ground Up! 🎉 It's the book we wish we'd had 3 years ago. No messing with tools and frameworks. It's a hands-on guide to the core of Wasm: the instruction set and module format. Link below. 👇
Learn Wasm by building a simple compiler in JavaScript. No compiler expertise necessary. All the code is in the book; we'll take you through it step by step. Get your hands dirty and see for yourself what WebAssembly is all about.

School recently banned phones and these are the questions students asked:
- Am I permitted to use smoke signals to communicate?
- Could I use a carrier pigeon to send messages?
- Would I be permitted to use a SCR-578, 500 kHz radio transmitted to send messages in Morse code during the school day?
- Will banning cell phones cause Verizon's stock price to drop? Would you recommend divesting from the company before the ban goes into effect?
- Let's say I am caught with my cell phone during 6th period and so am required to
surrender the phone at the start of the following day. If I go home and replace every single component in the phone with a replacement, is this still the same cell phone? How does the school plan to address this Grecian philosophical dilemma?

It took a while for google and firefox to review it and stuff, but the extension is now out! (actually just google, firefox did it within a day) Anyway, in case you're not aware, this extension adds emoji autocomplete to bluesky. You can now type :sob: !! github.com/yui019/blues...

Hello 👋 Just testing out my bluesky emoji extension! It probably still has some bugs though so I'll hold off on releasing it for a couple days. (there was a lot of edge cases to cover and Bluesky using ProseMirror, a full-on WYSIWYG editor for the post form didn't exactly help)

I got Linux running in a PDF file using a RISC-V emulator. PDFs support Javascript, so Emscripten is used to compile the TinyEMU emulator to asm.js, which runs in the PDF. It boots in about 30 seconds and emulates a riscv32 buildroot system. linux.doompdf.dev/linux.pdf github.com/ading2210/li...

As part of a project I'm working on I had to generate a list of emoji names, so I published it as a separate repo. It's useful for emoji completion (like on discord). I just thought that someone might find it useful, so I'm making this post for discoverability and stuff 😊 github.com/yui019/emoji...

News for GitHub users / AI haters: The Copilot "offer" UI that was added to Github last month (the boxes in the top toolbar and on the front page) can now be disabled. If you go to Settings->Copilot in Github there is now a new "Visibility" setting:

Great way to expand one's graphics knowledge: Every day grab and read a random graphics paper from realtimerendering.com/random.html. Even if you struggle to get the specifics, read the abstract or skim over it to learn about its existence and get the gist of a graphics technique.
