I see folks (and have no beef with them, hence why I'm vagueposting) who share images/vids of the president being old and out of it to some significant degree, as if it's going to happen soon. If that brings personal comfort 2 u, go for it, Lord knows we need it. But

A quarter century since Black On Both Sides, Stevie Chick dives deep into a savage display of talent from a young artist ready to take it all on, and reflects on the dispersed promise of what was actually to follow

What do we tell our frightened kids? Not the truth that adults don’t give a fuck about them because of some archaic law? That there’s more regulation on squishies than firearms at this point?

Slavery was and is a real thing that has brutalized hundreds of millions of people over the course of human history, if someone tells me a fucking chatbot is enslaved I'm immediately throwing hands. It's not cute, it's not intriguing, it's an insult to real people who suffered and suffer now.

Everyone (including me) always highlights the lines, "Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. / Just keep going. No feeling is final." But today I keep going back to the later lines, "Nearby is the country they call life. / You will know it by its seriousness."

Go to the Limits of Your Longing
by Rainer Maria Rilke
tr. Joanna Macy & Anita Barrows

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
Embody me.

Flare up like a flame
and make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.
