Good morning. This is Mussenden Temple near my home. Owned by the National Trust. I was once asked in a previous post, how close it was to the cliff edge. Think this answers the question. 😊 Lots of interesting info in alt. #photography #Ireland #ColorADay #GreenSat #ECK
Mussenden Temple stands prominently on a grassy clifftop overlooking Downhill Strand on Northern Ireland’s north coast. The circular stone building fills the left side of the frame, its weathered columns and domed roof highlighted by soft sunlight. To the right, dramatic blue skies streaked with wispy white clouds stretch above the coastline. Far below, a sandy beach curves along the shore beside a small cluster of white buildings, while green fields top the distant cliffs. The elevated viewpoint emphasizes the temple’s spectacular position above the Atlantic Ocean.

* It was built as a library, not a temple. The circular building was constructed around 1783–1785 by Frederick Hervey, the eccentric Earl Bishop of Derry. Books once lined the walls inside.

* Its design was inspired by ancient Rome. The architecture is based on the Temple of Vesta, a famous circular Roman temple, reflecting Hervey’s love of classical architecture.

* It stands on the edge of a cliff nearly 120 feet (36 m) above the sea. Coastal erosion gradually brought the cliff edge closer and closer to the building, leading to major stabilization work in 1997 to protect it.

* A fire burned constantly beneath the library. A fireplace and flue system helped keep the books dry despite the exposed coastal location and Atlantic weather.

* It is one of Ireland’s most photographed landmarks. The combination of classical architecture, dramatic cliffs, and sweeping coastal views makes it a favourite with photographers from around the world.

* On a clear day you can see far beyond County Derry. The views stretch across Downhill Strand toward Inishowen Peninsula, and sometimes even to the coast of Scotland.

* The Latin inscription around the building comes from Lucretius. It roughly translates as: “It is pleasant, safely from the shore, to watch another struggle with the stormy sea.”

In a couple of months these fields will be harvested but while they’re here……I just can’t walk past without taking a photograph 😁 This is the field I took the Stonechat shot. Taken yesterday on my walk. We are famous for our rapeseed oil here. #Stunday #photgraphy #Ireland #ECK
A vast field of bright yellow rapeseed flowers stretches across the landscape near Myroe by Lough Foyle, glowing under dramatic spring skies. Thick, towering grey-and-white clouds roll across a deep blue sky, casting shifting shadows over the field. A line of trees and distant low hills sit along the horizon, giving the scene a wild, open feel typical of the north coast countryside in Ireland.

Dramatic sunset over Lough Foyle, with bands of dark blue and slate-grey clouds sweeping across the sky. A glowing strip of golden light sits low on the horizon, reflecting in rippled pools across the exposed tidal flats in the foreground. The distant hills of Donegal form a soft, dark silhouette beneath the fading light, adding depth and contrast to the wide, tranquil coastal scene.

Binevenagh Mountain rises in the distance, its rugged cliff face glowing gold in warm sunlight beneath heavy, dramatic clouds. In the foreground, a lush green field of tall grasses and wildflowers stretches toward the forested slopes, creating a rich contrast between the illuminated summit and the darker sky above.

If we listen attentively, we sense that the trees support us, even when we have long forgotten it. They give us air and teach us patience. A tree never rushes, and yet it reaches everything. It grows where the light calls it, trusting that its roots will hold it.

Happy Saturday Everyone Altocumulus lenticularis #Clouds for the #Blueskyartshow #Montana #Mountains #Scape #landscape #artyear #imageandverse “Clouds, like doubts, soften the light but do not extinguish it.” - John Muir
The image shows a wide expanse of sky dominating the frame, with the land reduced to a narrow, dark band along the bottom. The sky is a deep, saturated blue, layered with bands of cloud that vary in thickness, brightness, and texture. Most prominent is a broad, smooth cloud formation centered in the image, composed of stacked, horizontal layers that appear gently rounded and elongated. These layers are pale white to soft cream in color, with subtle shading that suggests depth and curvature.

Above and around this central formation, thinner clouds stretch across the sky in streaks and wisps. Some are diffuse and translucent, while others are denser and more defined, creating a sense of movement and stratification in the atmosphere. Small, darker cloud fragments appear embedded within the lighter layers, adding contrast and visual complexity.

The light appears even and indirect, with no visible sun, allowing the cloud forms to stand out clearly against the blue background. The clouds do not show sharp vertical development; instead, they emphasize horizontal structure, giving the scene a calm, suspended quality, as though the sky itself is arranged in tiers.

At the bottom edge of the image, a distant ridge line cuts a clean, uneven silhouette against the sky. The ridge is covered in forest, appearing nearly black in contrast to the brightness above, with faint variations suggesting trees and gentle slopes.
