Decided to read a poem every time I visit my local library … Yesterday I randomly picked “Hexed” from Yesika Salgado’s HERMOSA collection.

Text of poem:

Hexed

in high school
Mrs. Brooke looked at me, said

be careful. girls look for their father
in the men that they love.

I laughed

and never shook her curse.
