This one took a bit to write. The first piece is long (1,600+ words), and intense. But it needed to be said. I'll be interested to hear what you think. You...

I am concerned about the existence and amount of non-required requirements there are in WCAG 3. My answer is like always: Modules. But read my latest blog post yourself: yatil.net/blog/wcag-3-road-to-hell-…

Nic again with a banger article thinking about how metadata (no pun intended) needs to be closely regulated to not allow for (mis)interpretation of independence. Thought provoking as always, and if you’re not subscribed, you should change that right now […]

18 months ago, my mom almost died. When I went to do a wellness check on her, a reckless driver almost killed me. We’re both alive and safe, but also both in danger of eviction. Anything helps, including just sharing the story. buttondown.com/officehours/...

When you’re chronically ill, learning to rest is critical It’s also hard Our society rewards productivity We’re taught that rest is weakness. That we should play through the pain Rest is a strength It can help you maintain your baseline If all you did today was rest, be proud of yourself

Have you tried using an e-reader/notepad? I have a Boox Device (Air 5C) which I use when I need to read and annotate. I haven’t found a great workflow yet, but it has full Android, so a lot of ways to tinker with it*. It can help me to change media and use handwriting (badly) but it has a good

This is the last thing I’m saying about this. It’s social commentary, it’s never been a personal attack. It is everyone’s right to self-censor, and I can still find it hard to take that people have to. Criticizing a system does not mean criticizing individuals.

Eric Eggert @yatil.net · 14/08/2026
criticized people for being pressured. But I see it happening, and I see people’s individuality, which I enjoy experiencing because it is effing human, disappear behind “AI” phrases and it makes me sad. And that I’m discussing with a faceless, nameless account underlines this somehow perfectly.

Eric Eggert @yatil.net · 14/08/2026
I would say “thank you for your concern and recognizing societal pressures”. It’s not patronizing to point out ableism that affects people. Do you think Masking is good? Do you think people being pressured to be masked is good? I have no problem with individuals making decisions, and I have not

I have not criticized anyone for using LLMs, I have criticized society for putting the burden to present a certain way on people. I see how the personal voice and diversity of this community is less and less pronounced.

Healthcare is suicide prevention. Housing is suicide prevention. Childcare is suicide prevention. Universal basic income is suicide prevention. When we ensure people have their basic needs met, mental health improves.

Bear in mind when you ask an LLM to explain why it did what it did (or didn't), you're asking faces on toast to explain faces on toast. It's not explaining. It's plausibly completing. And you fell for it twice.

I love the idea of a shady Celia Imrie evading police and having apparently conversations about doing crimes with criminals, only to find out that she was writing a book and tried not to have taken her license away. It would be very funny.

Do not trust overlay vendors in any shape or form, but especially if they boast about W3C and IAAP memberships, memberships that are purely financial transactions.

One of the best things for the old flat before we moved was getting smoke alarms with Li-Ion batteries that are good for 10 years and replacing the 9V battery driven ones. Luckily the current flat had the permanent ones from the start.

100% agree. Chibnall’s run might not have been as successful as it could have been (see: global pandemic), but there were banger episodes and oodles of new writer to put it into a different direction. So much that RTD’s approach felt a bit out of time. This is a big show and it deserves big swings.

Outsourcing accessibility considerations to “AI” leads to the erasure of disabled people when designing and creating. That’s the goal. It’s digital euthanasia. I’m done mincing my words about this.

“If we only let Google unilaterally decide what is good for us, the web would compete better!” We have had that song and dance before. It has weakened the strengths of the web for no (AMP) or marginal gains in “competing”.
