The share of empirical social media papers tripled 2010→peak, then plateaued and started declining — driven by Twitter/X and Facebook. Access shifts may be reshaping what's studiable. More in the paper. 7/8

Platform mix: Twitter/X 51%, Facebook 36%, YouTube 17%, Reddit 6%. Mismatch: Twitter/X is 51% of papers vs. 21% of users; YouTube is 84% of users vs. 17% of papers. 83% of the papers study just one platform. 6/8

Big variation by field. Communication: ~13% of papers use social media data. Political Science: ~5%. Psychology: ~1%. Economics: under 1%. The gap between Communication and everyone else is striking. 5/8

How common is it? About 0.78% of all papers in our sample, 3.15% when you restrict to social science journals. A small slice, but it's grown a lot over time (more on that below). 4/8

We looked at 59 journals across Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Economics, Sociology, and leading interdisciplinary outlets. Used human-in-the-loop AI annotation to identify which papers actually use social media data for empirical analysis. 3/8

Share of social media papers tripled between 2010 and early 2020s, but has started declining in recent years! This recent plateauing and decline in social media use has been driven largely by the pullback in Twitter/X and Facebook data access. 2/8

If your code skills require user input at some point, explicitly require it by using the "AskUserQuestions" tools in skills.md, which would trigger the confirmation dialog shown below every time.

Then you can review the scored list in a Streamlit app and assign your own final ranking. In my case, it scored 700+ papers in under 3 minutes with 20 workers using gpt-4.1-mini (requires an OpenAI API key). Results are pretty good. Link: github.com/yang3kc/conf... 2/2

If you are reviewing for IC2S2 and it gives you a headache from reading all 700+ paper titles/abstracts while bidding, I just built a tool for it. It uses an LLM to score how relevant each paper is to your research interests (you can define a list of keywords). 1/2
