Progressive oxygenation of developing leaves directs morphogenesis
Oxygen availability underpins energy production in multicellular organisms, yet internal oxygen gradients arise in both plants and animals. Plants sense these variations via the plant cysteine oxidase...

To mark the 40th year since the homeobox discovery, we've commissioned a series of articles from leaders in the field demonstrating the impact of the discovery on different disciplines. Check out the full collection: journals.biologists.com/dev/collect…
40 years of the homeobox
A large family of developmental genes share a 180 bp DNA sequence, called the homeobox, which encodes a DNA-binding domain. This year, 2024, marks the 40th year since the discovery of the homeobox in 1984, a landmark that fundamentally impacted several fields including genetics, developmental biology, neuroscience and evolution.

To celebrate this anniversary, Development has commissioned a series of articles from leaders in the field demonstrating the impact of the homeobox discovery on different disciplines. These review-type articles will be published throughout 2024, starting with an introductory Editorial and collated here. We hope you find these articles interesting and we welcome your future submissions detailing how this remarkable family functions in development, stem cells and regeneration.

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image. All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.

NIRCam view of Cartwheel galaxy. Processed by @thocarp.bsky.social www.flickr.com/photos/19746... 🔭 🧪
A captivating image of the Cartwheel Galaxy, captured by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. The galaxy resembles a wagon wheel, with a bright central hub and multiple rings of stars and dust. The inner ring is a region of intense star formation, while the outer ring is expanding outward, pushing into the surrounding gas and triggering star formation in its path. The image also reveals distant galaxies in the background, showcasing the vastness of the universe.
