Aujourd'hui, Clytia hemisphaerica s’est imposée comme modèle expérimental de référence. Les colonies de Villefranche sont utilisées par des laboratoires du monde entier pour aborder nombre de questions biologiques comme l’ovogenèse, la méiose, l’embryogenèse, la neurobiologie et la régénération.
