Ughhhh no I don’t want to turbocharge my work with AI. I don’t want to level up my docs with AI. I don’t want to optimise my time with AI. I don’t want to unleash my potential with the help of AI. Just let me do my job in peace ok!!!!! Stop shoving AI down my throat!!!! I don’t want it!!!!!!!!

Great to hear Rachel Reeves acknowledge that "there are many reasons why people choose to have children then find themselves in difficult times. The death of a partner. Separation. Ill health. A lost job. I don’t believe that children should bear the brunt of that." So why should migrant children?

On my knees BEGGING journalists to stop calling it the “two-child benefit cap”. It’s two measures, the two-child limit, and the benefit cap. One is going, the other one isn’t.

There’s a good chance the British Prime Minister’s main adviser on AI is an OpenAI shareholder - but the government refuses to say whether she is. 🧵 1/5

So happy to see Jack's new piece out in the Big Issue! A great writer and a great laugh - I feel very lucky to have worked with him earlier this year. Have a read 👇

Resurrecting this dormant account although I rarely feel like I have something interesting to say - this is more of a listening exercise in an echo chamber.

For all those excited at the thought of women with short hair being excluded from the Ladies, yes, sometimes we're challenged. No, it's never an issue once we speak or the challenger has a proper look. They apologise, we laugh. All good. No-one dies: we are women, not snowflakes.

Why even have a brain, any ideas, any ability to express them, any kind of communication with other people, any desire to solve problems or invent anything, any reason to learn, any use for your eyes or your heart, or any reason to teach or create
From NYT article about the increasing use of AI in the classroom: “Writing is one of the most challenging tasks for students, which is why it is so tempting for some to ask A.I. to do it for them. In turn, A.I. can be useful for teachers who would like to assign more writing, but are limited in their time to grade it.”

The Government’s plan to broadcast videos of immigration raids and deportations is cruel and plays right into the hands of reform. This is what Trump did in his first week, are we really using the same scaremongering tactics as that guy?! www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

Airport expansion is completely incompatible with the government's aim to be a climate leader. Aviation has no short-medium term solutions to its carbon footprint. The UK can't become part of Trump's big back-track on climate. 3/3 neweconomics.org/2025/01/airp...

I would argue that the last thing which is needed now is Western, or any other country 's interference in how Syrians create a system of governance which works for them. What Western nations do need to do though is ensure that they continue to provide asylum for those seeking it. 7/

Yes person on the internet Syrians are aware that everything isn’t perfect and that there are challenges ahead. I think they didn’t need you to tell them that given that it’s been 5 decades of tyranny and no country ever emerged from tyranny without challenges ahead.

This is a good step forward - too many have been made homeless by previous gov policy (remember the 7 days' notice anyone?) and still suffer the consequences. 56 days still aren't that long when you need to rebuild your life from scratch and find a job as well as a home - we can still ask for more.

Child poverty is entirely preventable, but if we want to get rid of it, as a society we must accept that benefits are *a good thing*. It's disheartening to see how many politicians still talk about people 'gaming the system' - the most vulnerable (inc kids) pay the price for this rhetoric.

I feel like, with 1m+ new users a day, verification is going to be an issue on here. Not everyone has their own website/domain they can use, and it's still very easy to pretend to be someone else as people aren't used to checking handles. Or am I missing something?

This, so much 👇 I only have limited empirical evidence too, but in my experience shifting the focus from number of followers to engagements is a helpful way to understand how effective your messaging is. Getting lots of positive engagement on here at the moment despite the tiny numbers 🫡

New to @bsky.app? We’ve got some etiquette just for you! Turn on the little feature that reminds you to post alt text with your images. Alt text allows blind and partially sighted people to understand what's in your images using screen readers. Without alt text, it just says "image".
Screen shot of "Accessibility Settings" with two main categories: "Alt text" and "Media." Under Alt text, there are two toggle options labelled "Require alt text before posting," which is switched on. “Display larger alt text badges" Under Media, there’s an option labelled "Disable autoplay for videos and GIFs," which is switched on.
