On the other hand, Rick Springfield also spends a lot of time in the book talking about the glory and magnificence of dogs, "one of God's greatest inventions." A man after my own heart.

The Rick Springfield book is frustrating because he clearly has a lot of guilt and pain over all the fucking around he did and I expect every chapter to end "and that's how I learned to be a faithful husband" but the next chapter always begins "so here's how I started cheating on my wife again"

In this podcast from last month @augetoffmygold.bsky.social postulated that Nelly Furtado's "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)" is the worst lead single for an album ever. What are the main contenders for that title, do you think? (of songs I've covered, "Filthy," "Yummy" and "Eat You Alive" stand out)

"Cleveland!": "The taste of me is acquired," said the most popular woman on Earth I don't really like either of these songs but they are both miles better than all but two songs from Showgirl. I like that this one seems to be leaning into being obnoxious on purpose at least

wrote about the new Taylor Swift songs for GQ. it's me, hi, i'm the "Cleveland!" apologist, it's me www.gq.com/story/taylor...
In 2024, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made a celebratory social media post about his middling Christmas action-comedy Red One. The movie had
"shattered a viewing record" for Amazon Prime, becoming the fastest movie to hit 50 million views, and Johnson was thrilled. "RED ONE has a long shelf life with multiple verticals - kudos to our Amazon partners for their strategic win, that's just getting started," Johnson effused. When Taylor Swift announced the sudden arrival of a bonus version of last year's The Life Of A Showgirl (having previously said no bonus album would be necessary), it reminded me of such metrics-based fanfare. To commemorate achieving "the biggestBecause I have a soft spot for Taylor when she's really hamming it up ("But Daddy I Love Him" was the perfect amount of ham; the penis-themed disco song
"Wood" unfortunately took it too far), my favorite track is "Cleveland!" Over a gentle Springsteen chug-a-lug (maybe more Bleachers by way of Springsteen), Swift celebrates her Ohioan husband the best way she knows how: by flipping off the haters and losers. "Hate all you like! This is the love of my life!" she crows, tripping down the aisle with her gallant beau as onlookers mock her smile and sense of fashion. Swift has certainly gotten enough external feedback on her courtship and marriage to last a lifetime, and there might be some hesitation about converting earnest feelings into songs for public digestion these days. Still I wonder if the future might bring more measured, thoughtful examinations of her relationship, or if we're stuck with goofy, exclamation-pointed tunes about falling in love on the banks of the Cuyahoga.

Man, I'm looking at what Pink said she was offended by, vs. what Macklemore said, and, boy, this is a head-scratcher
and then took the mic to tell all of the Jews in the stadium that it wasn’t about them.

You don’t get to decide that for us.

That’s what prompted my repost. Not “Free Palestine,” and not anyone’s right to say it. [...]To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.[...]

The Stella Lefty attacks -- she's rich, she copies other artists -- are only things you say when you don't like the music, is what bothers me. All of you were cheering Ed Sheeran when he beat the plagiarism allegations in court. Almost all of "Uptown Funk" comes from elsewhere

I haven't listened to the Stella Lefty album to judge for myself how blatant the theft is or isn't, but I gotta say, this entire discourse has struck me as really obnoxious and lazy
ven if common, similar sounds can easily turn into PR problems — as Lefty is quickly learning. Amid a meteoric rise, she’s also been tarred as “Stella Thefty” by many on social media, where videos comparing the songs have gone viral and claims of plagiarism proliferate. The songs do sound similar, especially “Boston” and “Stick Season,” and the singer did herself no favors with an interview in which she denied any connection to Kahan’s song, saying instead, “I was literally thinking about nothing at all.”

But according to Joe Bennett, a veteran forensic musicologist who helps stars analyze sound-alike tracks, **such sonic overlap is pretty normal — and very rarely caused by outright theft. “Coincidental similarity between short bits of melody is way more common than people think it is,” says Bennett, a professor at Berklee College of Music. “And songwriters simply being out of ideas and plagiarizing each other is way less common than people think it is.”**

A song for the people who actually did want to know what Ja Rule thought on 9/11 Also a rare instance of Beyonce singing backup for someone else (Britney and J.Lo) Bravo to the masterminds who thought to include Staind's Aaron Lewis and relegated Usher to the r&b remix (which also exists)

at 4 minutes, "Choosin' Texas" is surprisingly long for a modern hit song. "Rein Me In," its UK-chart-running counterpoint, is 5 and a half.

I don't know if people realize this but Dolly Parton was not a huge seller back in her heyday. She had a few big pop hits and was a great all-purpose celebrity but her sales figures were nowhere even close to Kenny Rogers's or Willie Nelson's.
