I know this has been said plenty of times before, but the whole point of automatization is that it frees us from shitty tasks so that we can spend more time with our loved ones, not t eother way around.

I recently went back to check some old forums I was in thinking it would be cute to see my old posts, only to be confronted by my absolutely terrible takes on Miley Cyrus' 2013 VMAs twerktastrophy. I'm so glad I got called out by several people there...

I am thrilled and proud beyond measure to support the amazing workers who create and design the games I and my loved ones have spent a lifetime playing. I implore everybody to sign the petition and signal boost the campaign as far and wide as we can!

Hey you know how when Tucker Carlson or Nick Fuentes toss out some nominally left wing position, and everyone immediately recognizes it as an attempt to rehabilitate their image and infiltrate new audiences? Maybe stop praising the Pope just because he hates AI, like everyone else does.

My question here is... What does "act like it" mean? Not being shocked or disappointed? Because I feel like if the bus driver, to whom I only say "hi" and "thank you" every morning, turned out to have assaulted someone, I would still be shocked and disappointed.

I can't believe there is an even stupider version of the "Does bullying the Animal Crossing neighbours you dislike mean that you're a bad person?" debate.

I am still dumbfounded that in Fairy Tail, an anime known for abundantly using anglosaxon names such as Lucy, Levy, Gray, etc., they somehow decided that the cannon pronunciation of two of the characters' names was Erza and Jelal, instead of the obvious Elsa and Gerard.

The way I see it: Tantrum has the connotation of "immature". Meltdown has the connotation of "overwhelmed/overstimulated". Crashout has the connotation of "I can't keep dealing with your bullshit".

What's funny is that, as someone who grew up in a country where everything is dubbed, I am very much primed to ignore it when words don't correspond to mouth movements, and yet I still get a "that's very much not right" feeling when I see AIs "talking"

I read something along the lines of "Families with one disruptive member tend to cater to their whims to try and keep peace, without realizing that the only peace they're keeping is that of the one disruptive individual". Seems like it also applies to whole countries!

It's very bad that we've developed a new dominant breed of debate pervert who spends their entire lifecycle insisting nobody will let them say the things they've said a thousand times and insisting everyone has to have the same debate with them every single time

I haven't watched pretty much nything from the MCU after Endgame, but the vibe that I'm getting from this conversations is that the MCU basically turned into the DCU: a bunch of movies more concerned with setting up future movies than on being movies in their own right.

It's hilarious to hear these people act as if they are scared of what they're creating. "We're crossing a barrier that shouldn't be crossed! We fear we might have doomed humanity!" If they truly believed that was the case, they would have stopped.

Has it turned into this? Or has it always been like this? Because the "Your Fave Is Problematic" list or the "In 'Lillo and Stitch', Lillo is actually an abuser" discourse are more than a decade old at this point.

My grandmother had a saying: "And Magda Goebbels made a great strudel." For years I didn't understand it, until my mother explained that some glossy magazine once ran a puff piece on Magda Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda queen - complete with her strudel recipe. My grandmother, who despised the Nazis with every ounce of her soul, used it as shorthand for the way media will sanitize evil by focusing on something trivial, domestic, or charming while ignoring the atrocities staring us in the face.

If it wasn't for the extremely on-the-nose lyrics, I would never had known this was a country song... This man is so talented, why do stuff like this? Can't even be for sellin-out purposes, considering how hostile the country scene seems to be toward black artists...

This hits the nail on the head for me. The Lion King's accidental message of "There's a king born into their position who quite literally eats his subjects" is way more easily disregarded when such king is presented as caring, just, and aware of their power and commited to using it responsibly

a great dissection of why a lot of fandom drama doesn't only boil down to "these people are thinking too much about [insert series here] and need to touch grass." there's another layer to the way folks get obsessed (for parasocial/self-important rewriting/clout reasons, etc) that gets glossed over
by asneakyfox on tumblr:

one big thing i think people outside fandom (like, all fandoms, fandom in general, not any particular one) tend to misunderstand is they know it's a subculture of people who are weirdly deeply invested in fictional media, and they hear about drama caused by people in those subcultures being unhinged in not-fun ways, and they think the unhingedness comes from the fact of being overinvested in works of fiction.

which is a natural assumption, but in my experience that's not really the case? like in my experience the drama llamas in fandom are usually not the ones who are just genuinely very deeply into the fiction. i've known people who are basically thinking about star trek or x-men comics or supernatural pretty much 100% of their free time and ime that type of person is usually very nice and surprisingly functional in their regular life. when someone's a constant nexus of fandom drama it's usually not that they are obsessed with the actual work of fiction the fandom is about, it's at least one of the following:

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but their unhealthy parasocial relationships with one or more of the people who created it

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but some elaborate shared-universe subset of fanfic about it that's only barely related to the original at this point, and/or an esoteric reading-against-the-text reinterpretation of the source material (often if the canon is active and ongoing this leads to becoming actively hostile toward it for its inevitably increasing failure to conform to their preferred fanon)

what they're obsessed with is not the source material but the fandom itself and gathering clout within it, so that the source material basically only exists to them as a tool for scoring points in increasingly arcane fandom disputes

and very often you get the same person doing 2 and sometimes even all 3 of these, and that's where the trouble really starts.
