Super Mario Sunshine is surprisingly more realistic than later Mario games in one specific aspect: here, Mario will start drowning if he hangs on to a ledge in such a way that water is flowing into his nose and mouth, as one would in real life.

Observe Mario holding on to a ledge that water is flowing over in Super Mario Galaxy (left) and Super Mario Odyssey (right). If realistic physics applied, he should start drowning since his nostrils and mouth are covered by water flowing into them.
However, in these games the air depletion/drowning state is tied to the swimming animation. As long as Mario is not visibly swimming, he cannot be drowning even if he is covered by water.
In Super Mario Sunshine, however, air depletion is decoupled from swimming as an action, allowing Mario to realistically start drowning in this situation (note him flashing red and his air meter depleting).
However, he is saved by Sunshine's (also unique among 3D Mario platformers) ledge tiredness mechanic. After hanging on for 20 seconds, Mario will let go. This is also realistic, since why would he let himself drown?

Happy Birthday Among Us! As a gift, here is some very very old absolutely not canon outdated art I did from the original pitch for the tv show. A LOT changed since that time, it was on the fringe of the time I started at Innersloth, and it's generally just really cool to see how much changed.

my awesome devius ex machina fan art comic #deviusexmachina #daveandbambi

a fan made, four panel comic of the dave and bambi au devius ex machina.

first panel: dave and bambi are in the 3D realm, in their 3D forms. dave is scared and covering his face. bambi is to his immediate right, with his hand on his shoulder, also scared. dave says "this is not good, i think this is the end." bambi replies "yeah, i think this is the end bro, i think we're dead."

second panel: expunged appears behind them, t-posing and grinning devilishly. bambi and dave are startled. expunged loudly exclaims "MY NAME IS ANDERDINGUS."

third panel: dave and bambi turn around, looking more scared than ever. bambi has his hand on dave's back now, guarding him. he says, dreadfully, "ooooh shittings."

fourth panel: dave and bambi fly away while expunged chases them, laughing. under it reads the text "he's coming back, run!" this panel is more of an extra doodle than anything, as it was not made with the same quality as the other three panels.

Fully rendered art piece including many characters. They are set in the Lord Bambi Era, during the medieval ages.

In the first section at the top, Lord Bambi is looking down upon the Flower and the Planter as they are both close to one another. Text around them says, "The once wise, with many eyes on him watched over us; appreciative." and "His gaze enlightened our hearts, growing our devotion to his reign."

The next row shows Cassie and Danezy talking to each other after enjoying a small handful of raspberries. Danezy is showing his plush toy his father sowed him; it looks like Lord Bambi if he was in the working class!

On the same row, Blossom and Dolores are holding a plate with a slice from a strawberry cake on it. They are both excitedly looking at it. Queenie there too, pleased from all of their efforts.

Next row shows THE DOCTOR holding Valora's wing up, staring at the creature as Valora is left speechless.

Next to them is Runja praying, his cape turning into flames below him. It's as if he's sharing the words being said, "Until Madden's lies seeped through the cracks of our beloved community, poisoning our judgment." and "The Holiest Prophet will guide us to the heavens; he knows what our Lord's wishes were."

Lastly on the row, it's Mx. etg holding a Matthason plushie, bewildered at its existence.

The last row show Chichkin holding a bow and arrow, Marsh with a sword and Matthason sitting on his throne, smirking. Words around him say, "Do not revolt against them though." and "Or you will be sent to the fiery pits of hell."
