Employee households recorded the largest rise in living costs this quarter of 1.5%. The rise in living costs was largely due to Insurance and financial services driven by an 8.2% increase in Mortgage interest charges, which make up a higher proportion of expenditure for these households. Mortgage interest charges rose due to banks passing on the RBA’s cash rate increases in February, March and May to both fixed and variable rate home loans. However, only part of the RBA’s cash rate hike in May was captured this quarter due to the timing of the change. The remaining impact will be seen in the September 2026 quarter.

So after a 30-something year break from tuba, I played in my first-ever music competition on the weekend, the VBL State Solo & Ensemble Championships. The brass quintet I was in managed first in the C/D grade quintet and third (of 13) in the open hymn section. Has been fun to be a musician again.

The Cafflano Kompresso seems to have a bad rap, but I've been able to get decent espresso shots out of it (using a friend's when we travelled) so happy to finally have my own now. It's small and light with an interesting modder community. Seems they aren't making them any more :(

Dragging out my old (noisy) grinder so I can have extra coffee dialled in. Converted to stepless then added a bunch of 3d-printed parts. My son was pleased to show off his skills modifying the thingify chute design for less mess.
