Somewhat related: my dad would refer to an upstairs cupboard as 'the gloryhole', which made my then gf's (now wife) eyes come out on stalks when he suggested she put something there, out of the way

I was asked by a senior manager about the nonsense going around last week. The first draft started "do you know what a cultic mileu is"...

Very ahistorical, I am sure, but at the time time it read like posters on fan forum shipping their preferred couples

Not sure how intentional it is, but Phaedrus picking at an argument he has with Aeschylus during Plato's Symposium I found "very funny" when I first read it. precis: Achilles was the hottest of all the Greeks and definitely the 'eromenos' of Patroclus. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional

she _is_ being arch there, I won't disagree. The original poem is very effecting on this point. This is Wilson reading the passage of Argus recognising Odysseus. It is not the reading of a woman ignorant of the value of animal companionship. www.youtube.com/shorts/fC-sB...

It is a real "telling on yourself" moment. I am sure that Fauci is not totally unimpeachable (who is?), but they can't conceive of someone doing their best in difficult circumstances and not simply acting in their own venal interest

the scope has doubtlessly increased since then. now they they also lay flowers and hire pop groups - those sneaky bastards
Its techniques range from planting stories in the media, using undercover operatives to lay flowers at the scene of terrorist attacks and even, in one case, sending a pop group to sing anti-extremist songs in Muslim schools.

As a mancunian, I'll agree with the "especially by older guys". Also, I feel like I am more likely to hear it in certain parts of the city. I did have a manager (from the south) who felt she was being patronised by a colleague calling her love. But he called everyone love (he was an arse though)

I somehow came away from that article feeling much less sympathetic than I did before
Her most recent petition, filed last December, together with some 1,000 pages of supporting evidence, argues that her trial was unfair and constitutional safeguards were brushed aside. One point made by the petition is that a juror did not disclose a history of sexual abuse, therefore making them biased.
