Everyone's a critic
A tabby cat has playing cards arrayed around him, as if performing a magic trick. He is glowering at a black cat

the scope has doubtlessly increased since then. now they they also lay flowers and hire pop groups - those sneaky bastards
Its techniques range from planting stories in the media, using undercover operatives to lay flowers at the scene of terrorist attacks and even, in one case, sending a pop group to sing anti-extremist songs in Muslim schools.

In a similar vein, I am very much a fan of the Slay the Spire 2 placeholder art
Slay the Spire 2 placeholder art: it makes sense in context, looks like it was made in MS Paint (complimentary)

I would have thought there was an example of prior art in this instance
Littler has already trademarked his nickname "the Nuke" in the United States.

Oh, I see
Screenshot from the article:

In one of the documents seen by Index, the school admits that the categorisations of the books were written using AI, writing: “Although the categorisation was generated using AI, I consider this classification to be broadly accurate.”

I somehow came away from that article feeling much less sympathetic than I did before
Her most recent petition, filed last December, together with some 1,000 pages of supporting evidence, argues that her trial was unfair and constitutional safeguards were brushed aside. One point made by the petition is that a juror did not disclose a history of sexual abuse, therefore making them biased.

In happier memories from this time: this is why we have nicknamed one of our cats "Ed Miliband"
Four black and white kittens are intently looking at something off camera. A doleful adult ginger cat ("Ed Miliband") looks at them through the window of an internal door

Immediately thought of this. Doubling down on lectures now, presumably
Thread from Twitter:

@enrico221960
As a Kenyan official put it: Every time China visits we get a hospital, every time Britain visits we get a lecture.

@MarkSeddon1962
Maybe, but how will Kenya be obliged to pay this investment back? No such thing as a free hospital?

@stillreezy
here comes the lecture lol

They have amusingly pre-empted that line
“My life is embarrassingly simple,” she says. “ We don’t have a television so I don’t pay for a TV licence, Netflix or any of that. If we watch something, it’s on YouTube or we rent library DVDs.

“The heating goes on twice a day to warm the flat to 18.5 degrees. It’s terribly cold at times, but we try to use the principle of heating the person rather than the space.

“I don’t have a mobile phone contract. I use pay-as-you-go because it costs me £5.60 per month. I’ve had the same phone for the past eight years. It’s a pain because now it’s really slow and there are certain websites you cannot open any more. But that’s life.”

The most valuable things Monica owns are her 10-year-old computer which she worries she cannot afford to replace and their second-hand car which she uses in the summer holidays to go hiking with her children.

I enjoy the Godot-like quality of this bit
AB: "You could do it tomorrow?"
NO: "We absolutely could"
AB: "Are you going to do it tomorrow?"
NO: "We're not going to do it tomorrow"

The local council's advice on picking up litter in Salisbury is (still) basically "don't" www.wiltshire.gov.uk/article/5936...

"litter picks in the Salisbury area are not encouraged [...] if you didn't drop it, then don't pick it up"

It reminds me of the early internet site "i can eat glass", which had a brilliant raison d'etre
Screenshot from the Wikipedia page for "I can eat glass"

As Mollick explained, visitors to a foreign country have "an irresistible urge" to say something in that language, and whatever they say (a cited example being along the lines of "Where is the bathroom?") usually marks them as tourists immediately. Saying "I can eat glass, it does not hurt me", however, ensures that the speaker "will be viewed as an insane native, and treated with dignity and respect".

WHAT WAS CLAIMED
Eating glass has health benefits. For example, it can “aid in weight loss”.

OUR VERDICT
This is not true. Eating glass is potentially dangerous.
