It’s my absolute worst job: culling cookbooks because 2000 is my ceiling (literally). Some writers - who I love - have seven, eight, nine books. They’ll bring out another next year. I just can’t keep them all. But which three, say, to hold on to? 😩

Sooo… the owner of an Airbnb I booked has told me it’s no longer available (on Christmas Day, thanks for that). Now she wants me to cancel the booking so she doesn’t pay a fee. But it’ll go on my history so I’ll look unreliable. No biggie, maybe. But what would you do?

1938 airline catering! From 'Flying' (UK) weekly magazine edited by W.E. Johns of 'Biggles' fame. Anyone able to advise any publications or writing on to early / pre-World War Two airline catering data, with actual menus or detail (rather than the usual breathless 'there's food for passengers!).
Page, dated 'October 22, 1938' of 'FLYING' magazine with several articles. of interest: "Aerial Dining IMPERIAL AIRWAYS, pioneers in aerial catering, announce further improvements in the excellent service. Victualling Clerks have been appointed at various points on the routes, and they will arrange the supplies of food which are taken aboard at these points. Formerly this task was entrusted to the steward on the aircraft concerned, but it is obviously advantageous to have a man on the spot for the purpose. It is intended to make a speciality of dishes peculiar to certain places. Also of gastronomic interest was the recent transport of oysters from Sidney to Singapore by air. They were packed in wet sea mud, in the shell, of course. We are not surprised to hear that they arrived quite safely."
