Great catching up with @jennylinford.bsky.social x @deliciouslegacy.bsky.social over fabulous Lebanese food at Sohaila, inc this delightful knafeh. More than just the food, it's also an outpost of inspiring social enterprise, Fat Macys, providing work to people coming out of temporary accommodation.

A final farewell lunch with our oldest, before heading off home with a few tears in our eyes - hoping he'll settle well into uni, make some friends, and even work out where the washing machine is. At least we left him with a happy belly, thanks to Bundobust's fabulous Indian vegetarian street food.

Whilst in Manchester, popped into not one but two fabulous Indian street food spots. First up - Ahaar in Prestwich, a tiny spot with a busy kitchen, serving some brilliant fabulous pav bhahi and samosa chat. 🔥

Kuchen may be a generic term, but for Manchester's Jewish community, we all know it as a sweet yeasted loaf - like babka but with a gentle swirl of cinnamon instead of chocolate - and iced with cherries on top. Perfect for breaking the Yom Kippur fast, just as I've done every year since I was small.

And just like that, off he goes… Dropping my 18yr old off at uni this weekend, and I couldn't feel more moved or proud. Sent him off with a pair of cookbooks - both of them ideal for someone starting out in the world and making his own way. He enjoys his cooking too. Farewell, big man! 😭❤️

Any time I'm meeting my publisher, I cannot help but pop into Italo deli for one of their brilliant sandwiches. It's now quite the ritual. This time, I had a Reuben, generously filled with pastrami, sauerkraut & fermented chilli - just the thing given the Ashkenazi Jewish food theme of my book! 🥪

A classic island dish, being in the Cyclades or Crete is a fish soup, which also is called "kakavia" and it's basically the fisherman's soup. Whatever he caught he doesnt sell its in it. Patience Gray in her book "Honey from a Weed" has one from Naxos island. open.spotify.com/episode/71HV...

Been a year since my beautiful mum passed away. Have been thinking about her all week: her smile and her sayings and her big, warm heart. It's still hard to think she's no longer here. Lighting the yahrzeit candle, and thinking of the light she gave to us and everyone around her. Love you, mum. x

There are so many misconceptions about secure hospitals and the mentally ill prisoners sent there. The regular prison estate is not equipped to house and treat severely mentally ill people. They become more unwell putting themselves and the staff at risk.

All classic dishes, and each one absolutely spot on - silky smoky mutabbal (aubergine dip), a stunningly punchy hummus, musakaa (tomatoes, aubergine, garlic), warak inab (vine leaves). Plus a beautiful muhallabia for dessert. 🔥

Made my great-grandma Beck's apple cake today. It's the first time I've ever baked it (road-testing it for my book!), but my late mum used to make it regularly, and especially at Rosh Hashanah time. It has certainly stirred up some very dear memories of them both. 🍏
