In a dissenting opinion today over a decision to not rehear a case transferring a sacred Western Apache site to a mining company, Chief Judge Mary Murguia wrote: "Unless the Supreme Court steps in, a mining project will obliterate Oak Flat and destroy 'the very foundation of the Apache religion.'"

New Mexico is banning uranium mining on state land, Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard announced at a press conference. The state "has a painful and long history" with uranium, she said, and is now being ignored by the Trump administration in the pursuit of new mines, thus the state's ban.
