France’s ongoing drought has once again pushed soil moisture further below historical levels than any previously recorded drought. Uncharted territory.

Unbelievable footage from NOAA’s Hurricane Hunters inside the eye of Category 5 Hurricane Polo. Simply incredible.

In just 24 hours, Polo went from a tropical storm to one of the strongest hurricanes on record. Simply remarkable.

Paris, France, has now recorded 100 days above 25°C (77°F) in 2026 so far. This has never happened before in a calendar year since records began 154 years ago, in 1872.

It’s hard to fathom the sheer scale of the devastation that occurred in Nepal and Tibet. The latest estimates suggest that the glacier-rock collapse mobilized more than 142 million m³ of material. Here’s what that volume looks like when placed over Manhattan, New York City for scale.

Bhote Koshi Flood 2026: A Reconstruction from Open Satellite Data

New analysis reveals that the flood wave traveled the first 25 km (15 miles) of its catastrophic descent at an average speed of 150 km/h (93 mph), reaching a maximum velocity of 190 km/h (120 mph) at the Nepal–Tibet border. Data: Geopera/Vantor

The failure times of river gauges deployed by Nepal’s DHM along the upper BhoteKoshi/Trishuli River indicate a maximum flood-wave propagation speed of at least 115 km/h (70 mph), possibly even higher near the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint. You simply can’t outrun that.

An incredibly well-timed Landsat 9 pass captured the effects of yesterday’s catastrophic glacier collapse near the Nepal–Tibet border. The event was so massive that it was detected by seismometers around the world.

Yesterday’s severe weather event in southern France, which developed ahead of a potent mid-latitude cyclone, has been officially classified as a “derecho“. It traveled 500+ km in just a few hours.

In terms of temperature anomaly for the last three months (MJJ 2026 period), France is the most anomalous country in the world with +2.8 °C above the 1991-2020 average.

France and the whole western Europe is dark red, indicating much warmer than normal conditions.Bar diagram showing the top 10 and bottom 10 countries in terms of temperature anomalies from normal. It’s now official: June–July 2026 was the most anomalously warm two-month period ever recorded in France by a staggering margin. France is now virtually certain to record its warmest summer on record.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

This extraordinary event was caused by a strong Zonda-like foehn wind. The Zonda is a hot, dry downslope wind that develops on the eastern side of the Andes in western Argentina. Look at how the relative humidity remained below 5% for hours in the table below.

I've never seen anything like it. Salta, Argentina, has just recorded its hottest night on record during the climatologically coldest time of the year. The minimum overnight temperature did not fall below 26°C (78.8°F), pulverizing the previous monthly record by 7°C.

As you might expect, the recent unprecedented heat event across Europe has triggered an extreme marine heatwave in the western Mediterranean Sea, with sea surface temperature anomalies now exceeding +7°C in some areas.

This is getting ridiculous. Germany has preliminarily set a new all-time heat record with 41.3°C in Saarbrücken. Until this extraordinary heatwave, the country had never recorded a temperature above 40°C in June. More extreme heat is expected this weekend.

Can’t say I recall ever seeing this before. More than half of France’s 30+ year-old weather stations set/tied their monthly high-temperature record in May 2026. Some did so as many as 9 times. Unprecedented to witness this level of heat so early in the year.

Today’s low temperature of 21.4°C in Camborne, Cornwall, was the highest May minimum temperature ever recorded in the UK and, in fact, the highest minimum temperature ever recorded at this station. This is a very significant record to fall by such an extraordinary margin.

I can’t believe it’s not even June yet and we’re already looking at the very real possibility of France reaching +40°C later this week. Literally hundreds of May records have already been set. Truly unprecedented to witness this level of heat so early in the year.

The word “unprecedented” gets thrown around a lot these days to describe the ongoing heatwave across the Western U.S., and let’s be honest — it’s absolutely justified. Perhaps the most impressive multi-day event since the 2021 PNW heat dome.

In Phoenix, Arizona, temperatures could reach an unbelievable 107°F (+42°C) on Friday. If that verifies, it would break the record for the earliest occurrence of 107°F since records began in 1895, pulverising the previous record by a whopping 44 days. This is totally bonkers.
