In short: you can have decent rent controls whilst *reducing* the likelihood of landlord sell offs (and therefore evictions). The government's current position is untenable.

Why would the Government build reservoirs for private companies? Is Reform suggesting some sort of leasing arrangement? Or is this is a subsidy to private corporations? Politicians can't duck the reality that to sort out water means you need it under public control and ownership. Get on with it.

Interesting to see the Heritage Foundation trying out a new attack vector on UBI. Apparently poverty is something that makes men out of boys and so UBI "emasculates" and "feminizes" men. The evidence is clearly in support of UBI, so they need to try and drag it into the culture wars like usual.

Remember that the tuition fee rise just about covers the simultaneous increase in employer national insurance contributions for universities, so cutting teaching grants on this basis means universities on life support being subject to a shake down and being expected to say thanks for the privilege.

Yeah 100% also feel this sometimes. I suppose I'm making a point about the technology rather than the industry. I agree with most of the critics about the industry, but I take issue with a strain of "philosophical" defence regarding how special thinking without technology, including AI, is.

AI is a handy tool for expression and iteration for that type of mind. As long as you understand it as such (and not as some kind of oracle). That's what I'm getting at when I think about AI as generative and creative.

Others, myself included, feel like we want to throw ideas down really quickly and see what they look like, as part of an iterative process which includes lots of mulling over time later...

Will Stronge @wstronge.bsky.social · 04/06/2026
We all seem to have different thinking processes, that's for sure. Some people like to spend time perfecting, redrafting and redrafting to get the perfect expression before moving on to the next idea. Some people like to read everything before they even begin touching the keyboard.

Will Stronge @wstronge.bsky.social · 04/06/2026
I don't have an ending to this thread really, but I don't think we get very far if we keep drawing tighter lines of what's genuinely creative and what's derived. It's not worked in the past & I don't think it really helps us understand what can be done with a tool like a non-human language model.
