I have a new poem out in Gargoyle! ❤️

First two stanzas of Triage:

When my grandfather was dying
in the hospital, a surgeon
stuck a tube in his back, vacuumed
out the extra fluid in his lungs, laughed
with the nurse about golf and football
while my grandfather screamed,
then sobbed, then breathed in crackling gusts
like dry branches catching fire.

The surgeon followed me into the hall,
pulled down his mask and said
Your grandfather is overreacting about the pain.
I was overreacting about the pain.
He was not going to be critiqued
by somebody who’d never held
a scalpel. It was not his fault
an old man was dying loudly.

I'm working with The Writer's Center on two new book clubs that focus on independent authors and presses!! We'll read a new book each month. Then the author will join us, read an excerpt, and answer reader questions! Read with us!

Fiction in person on 3rd Sundays, starting April 19th.

Last day to write. It's been a wildly productive and restful week, even as I watched horrible things happen from afar. This timeline is chaos but I will grab every quiet moment.
