Happy anniversary to the Black Death, first reaching England in June 1348. The mortality estimate is hard to pinpoint. Approximately 40-60% of the country died from the plague.

'Some of my favorite short stories, in fact, end without resolution.' Our #courageanthology comes out tomorrow and this is a brilliant article on the freedom & variety of endings in a short story. I try to avoid 'tales of the totally expected' or twists for the sake of it. What do you think?

Even after that, William Longspee, Earl of Salisbury - the father-in-law of Nicholaa's granddaughter - tried his best to force her out. But she held on to her inheritance, only retiring once Longspee was in his grave (he died in March 1226)
