See the alternating warm and cold patches in the Northern mid-latitudes? That's the imprint of a quasi-stationary Rossby wave (i.e. oscillations in the jet stream). It's rare to see it so clearly in a monthly-average temperature map.

Na de oversterftecijfers van Sciensano vorige week, komt Statbel nu met de overlijdenscijfers per dag. In de periode van de hittegolf zie je een enorme piek in de grafiek (de dikke donkerblauwe lijn). Op 27 juni telde Statbel 651 overlijdens, op 28 juni nog eens 639. 1/2
