Starting to notice recurring writing tropes. Every one of my novels has the hero captured and the villain dropping their thesis on ‘em. I’m not sure if that’s a lazy crutch on my part or if it happens in every genre novel with a hint of adventure.

Watching HOTD season 1 again and the whole Stepstones war is weirdly reminiscent of the present Iran situation. The only way for the US to come through this is for Trump to kneel on Hormuz beach offering an M4 carbine in pretend surrender but somehow I don’t think that’ll happen.

A dream I’m half-embarrassed to admit to is to one day go all out Day-Lewis and method write. Just rent and Air BNB and write a first person story while *being* the viewpoint character (same mannerisms, voice, clothes etc). But is the bang worth the buck? Plus It’s certainly very pretentious…

Watched Killers of the Flower Moon, finally. Just an incredible film about a shocking piece of modern history I’d never heard about. Perfect casting all round, particularly Lily Gladstone and Robert DeNiro. I think this is in my top five Scorsese movies. Marty don’t miss, even at ninety.

Saw this review of The Iron Code anthology: "Lots of fun stories here, from high fantasy, to low fantasy, to gutter fantasy..." I'm 99% certain mine's the latter and I'll take it. In fact I think it's an awesome term for an as yet undiagnosed sub-genre. King of Gutter fantasy!
