Co-sign Ken. Still creeped out by the cat.

What he is doing here is exactly the same as what they have done with the Fed. "Hey, seems like the standard you just set would mean the President can directly control the Fed..." "Well that can't be right...give me and the clerks some time, we'll work out why not."

This is, like much of the law at least from an outsider's point of view, both a) internally consistent logic and b) absolutely made up in order to achieve the results the Supreme Court wants. He could make up a new standard to get to other results. If he wanted to.

It is so tempting to campaign on “they will be on the first plane to CECOT, and if they complain they will have exactly the same ability to contest their detention that they have provided to others.” If it weren’t deeply evil.

You badly misunderstand this interaction. No one here looks insufferable but you, the person who does not seem to be able to read and has instead made wild assumptions based on preconceptions you created in your head.

Facebook marketplace is incredible.
Custom boat decals. And their example boat is the “boobie bouncer.”

It's a big part of why I don't enjoy it nearly as much as most people I know. There was a lot of Lucy and the football for me "oh oh we're really going to let the status quo change this year!" Nope. Which, to your point, was intentional. But it removes some dramatic tension.

The funniest part is that all of these disclosures are to prevent you from being sued if it happens. But for THAT result…doesn’t really matter!

Her whole thread is pretty nuts. I would also argue feeding a family IS indeed a series of tasks. Choose, buy, cook, eat. And to your point, we have a bunch of recipes we cook loaded into an app, and we can say “add that all to the list” then delete what we have. It’s great!

Maybe. My other theory is advanced Ezra Klein disease, where their mind simply cannot accept that there are just a lot of people out there who want bad things. They aren’t confused, or being tricked. I think this kind of guy is very uncomfortable with that conclusion.

Yeah and sort of an intractable problem for AI. It can have a bunch of capabilities…if you give them a bunch of access.

This feels too rude but I’m not sure what other conclusion we can come to. He just refused to investigate what actually motivates these creeps.

THIS is a great complaint. I have a lot more sympathy for “doesn’t do the task” than I do for “who plans dinners and shops for it?!?”

Some of the use cases for AI right now are "do a thing computers already do but with a plain English interface." I do think that's quite useful.

This sort of reminds me of when I was starting work and "the cloud" was the big thing. And I was so confused and it seemed like I must be missing something - what is this new technology and how have I missed it? Imagine my shock when I learned it's just "servers."

It's really useful! Maybe some people don't need it, but I cannot fathom that you wouldn't understand why some of these functions are helpful to many people.

This is one of the weirdest things I've seen people get mad about. We have a Skylight and this is the kind of stuff it does. You get invites for a kid's sports schedule? Just forward it and it goes on the calendar. Find a recipe you want to make? Send it and it will add ingredients to the list.

It’s how I understand all the “hypocrisy” stuff too. It doesn’t read to them as hypocrisy at all - caring about illegal immigrants being brutalized in CECOT is like thinking about killing a bug. They’re outside of the line of “people who matter.”

The longer I watch it, the more it seems to me that Republicans politics are first and foremost about drawing lines around who you do and do not have to care about. Because you’re right - individually they are largely caring and kind. But outside that line? People don’t exist.

I may be a simpleton but this is my answer to “do LLM’s think.” Well, if they were thinking, that kind of thing wouldn’t happen? So they are doing some impressive stuff. But for all its power it also has inhuman blind spots.

Right. Like, I’ve seen my son with and without the treatment. And one of those lives is incredible and fun, and the other is miserable because his impulses are fully in control. You’re not going to convince me that I should make him suffer.

At some point the remedy here is that some judges get to go on a vacation under the next admin. If these are rules they are happy with, that is. To your repeated point, just absolutely disgusting abdication of their role in our society.

This is what makes all the tactical moderation/triangulation stuff so obviously a fool's errand. Most voters are not consuming party policies that way. They are broad strokes generally defined by the other party.

I mean it's just all connected. "I care about other people" -> "I listen to my partner" but it also leads to "I want a political party that helps people." It feels like a double-effect - dating a lib often gets you both political alignment and a caring partner.

You gotta just not care. I think so many people allow a small and vocal audience to shape what they say and do bc being intellectually honest and consistent in your beliefs is costly. But at the end of the day why have a platform if you won't stick to your guns

Also fun to remember it doesn’t really exist! I mean not in the Constitution or anything. And that was an intentional decision. The Senate effectively amended the Constitution without the process.

This isn’t a huge surprise to me. I think the path for dudes is a combination of “you can’t tell me what to do” and “look at my research bro.” It’s a perfect storm of antivax causation.
