Like, we don’t need to invest in it, or use it. We don’t need a coke-fueled Clippy hallucinating summaries of our documents. We don’t need an incompetent robot suggesting ways to “improve” our art projects. None of this is necessary. But universities have bought in because they’re cash-starved.

I agree. I’m terribly fond of this prize though I hadn’t gotten around to reading the winning stories for this year. It also makes me afraid to jury stories now. I don’t know how to use AI for writing and I probably wouldn’t be able to spot AI writing if it was well done.
