It was a lovely day for a sail - or a spot of birdwatching around Festival Gardens and the Southern Grasslands 🌞 Highlights: house sparrow (my 1st here), Cetti's, chiffchaff, song thrush having a bath, flock of goldfinch mobbing the kestrel, flyover grey heron, and the grey wag again 🪶
A strip of grass, a path, railings, and the grey Mersey, on which 3 yachts with white sails are sailing, all under a cloudy sky, with a large pine tree on the right.

Lots of bird activity this morning, inc. skein of pinkies over city centre & marina, more pinkies & flocks of jackdaw over Festival Gardens, grey wag, finch & tit flocks, singing Cetti's & chiffchaff there, & chiffchaff, grey wag & more pinkies at #allotment 🪶 Been out all day - need a rest now!
Blue sky and white clouds above an estuary where a container ship is moving from left to right, with railings and pavement in the foreground. Pond liner, mostly covered in yellow-green algae and large stones, with a small amount of water at the back, and trees and shrubs behind. Large yellow sunflowers in front of a shed with a purple door. Red and yellow sunflowers in a bed of pink petunia, in front of a shed with a purple door.

Another lovely morning at Festival Gardens. Highlights: a kestrel flew into a nearby tree serenaded by a Cetti's, a skein of pinkies overhead, quite a few goldcrest, and fungi popping up all over 🪶 🍄
Green grass and a path leading through trees, all under a blue sky with a few fluffy white clouds. A large pine tree on a base of rocks. A group of fungi. A small group of fungi in grass.

Spent a lovely morning at Festival Gardens with @birderjack.bsky.social - the highlight was definitely the NFY water rail. Also, Cetti’s singing briefly, buzzard, flocks of goldfinch and tits, and a group of 5 jays, etc. 🪶
Grassland dotted with trees under a grey sky. A calm, grey Mersey Estuary under a cloudy grey sky with hints of blue.

Great to see a grey wagtail at the entrance to Festival Gardens earlier. All in all, it was a lovely morning with lots of foraging birds including a jay with a beak full of green acorns, mixed tit flocks, goldcrest, robins, GSW, and moorhen pair, with blackcap and chiffchaff still present, too 🪶
A small, sunlit pond surrounded by green vegetation; a moorhen pair are foraging. Two bridges cross green vegetation. A red wooden railing in front of a small pebble-filled pond and green trees. Sunlight silhouettes trees in front of an estuary.

A game of two halves at Festival Gardens today: a misty morning where the birds were mostly only identifiable by sound (esp the skein of pinkies!), then a sunny afternoon with a stunning pale buzzard, sparrowhawk, 3 pairs of common (?) darter ovipositing and a female emperor (?) the highlights.
Green trees and vegetation and a path shrouded by fog. Grass and a path in front of railings alongside an estuary, all shrouded in fog. Green trees and other vegetation and a roadway under a hazy blue sky. Light falls on a small pond surrounded by vegetation.

Managed to catch up with the bar-tailed godwit by The Britannia Inn this morning; it was feeding with a couple of blackwits (as is very clear in the video 🙄). Buzzard and sparrowhawk the highlights at Festival Gardens 🪶

No luck with the bar-tailed godwit near The Britannia Inn this morning, although the blackwit was there, as were curlew, redshank and turnstone 🪶 Festival Gardens was all about the fungi - IDs welcome - and a pretty pink cyclamen 🌸
Mudflats and estuary under a grey sky; walls and buildings just visible on the right. Two tall, thin grey fungus species on a path. A tight group of an orangey-beige fungus species on a path. Pretty pink and white cyclamen surrounded by brown pine needles on the ground.
