Delighted to share part of a beautiful morning with a pair of ravens, which were 'knocking' and 'spelunking' away and owning the sky, to the displeasure of other corvids 🖤🪶

Great to see a grey wagtail at the entrance to Festival Gardens earlier. All in all, it was a lovely morning with lots of foraging birds including a jay with a beak full of green acorns, mixed tit flocks, goldcrest, robins, GSW, and moorhen pair, with blackcap and chiffchaff still present, too 🪶
A small, sunlit pond surrounded by green vegetation; a moorhen pair are foraging. Two bridges cross green vegetation. A red wooden railing in front of a small pebble-filled pond and green trees. Sunlight silhouettes trees in front of an estuary.

A game of two halves at Festival Gardens today: a misty morning where the birds were mostly only identifiable by sound (esp the skein of pinkies!), then a sunny afternoon with a stunning pale buzzard, sparrowhawk, 3 pairs of common (?) darter ovipositing and a female emperor (?) the highlights.
Green trees and vegetation and a path shrouded by fog. Grass and a path in front of railings alongside an estuary, all shrouded in fog. Green trees and other vegetation and a roadway under a hazy blue sky. Light falls on a small pond surrounded by vegetation.

Managed to catch up with the bar-tailed godwit by The Britannia Inn this morning; it was feeding with a couple of blackwits (as is very clear in the video 🙄). Buzzard and sparrowhawk the highlights at Festival Gardens 🪶

No luck with the bar-tailed godwit near The Britannia Inn this morning, although the blackwit was there, as were curlew, redshank and turnstone 🪶 Festival Gardens was all about the fungi - IDs welcome - and a pretty pink cyclamen 🌸
Mudflats and estuary under a grey sky; walls and buildings just visible on the right. Two tall, thin grey fungus species on a path. A tight group of an orangey-beige fungus species on a path. Pretty pink and white cyclamen surrounded by brown pine needles on the ground.

Sunshine and showers at Festival Gardens this morning, with kestrel, goldcrest, chiffchaff, lots of singing robins, singing Cetti's and skeins of pinkies the highlights 🪶
An earthen path surrounded by leafy trees. Red rose hips and their green leaves overhanging a pink gravel path. A cloudy grey sky over dark trees; a kestrel hovers, lost in the gloom. A railing with a red lifebelt attached to it in front of a dark grey river with a moody grey sky above.

Lots of birds were drawn to this pond & surrounding trees at Festival Gardens this morning, both bathers & foragers: juvenile blackbird, m & f blackcap, blue tit & great tit, chiffchaff, dunnock, robin, woodpigeon, wren and - my 1st ever - a juvenile bullfinch (took a few long moments to ID it 😂) 🪶
A small pond surrounded by green vegetation.

All the streams and ponds in Festival Gardens are holding some water again, which is great to see after they completely dried out over the summer. Birding highlights: flyover raven pair and a party of foraging LTTs 🪶
A shallow pond surrounded by green vegetation and trees. A Japanese water feature with large pebbles and some water, surrounded by trees, with a red railing in the foreground. Traps for the farm's Small Mammals Survey this morning held five wood mice (inc. juvs) and a field vole. Barn owl pellet dissection added evidence of the farm's 1st shrew. Birding highlights: hobby hunting hirundines, sparrowhawk, kestrel, buzzard, covey of 9 grey partridge, and chiffchaff 🪶

'Safety first' when sacking Rome.
The same young lady with goth makeup, a black Victorian-style dress, and dark hair: the classic 'goth look'. The original image is labeled "goth", while another one has been composited on with a high-vis yellow work vest like those used on construction sites, and below it it says "Visigoth".

petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/24... Up to now, Wales has fortunately rejected calls for appalling badger culls. Please sign this petition against Reform (& possibly Plaid) proposal for pointless, cruel badger cull.
petitions.senedd.wales
Petition: We call upon the Senedd to reject any badger cull in Wales.
England has slaughtered ¼ million badgers but STILL has a higher incidence of cattle TB breakdowns than Wales. Both countries have achieved reductions on all key metrics, but in Wales without any badger culling. Almost 95% of Welsh herds are officially TB-free, close to the lowest level in two decades . This is a cattle disease and cattle measures have been effective in both countries. There is NO scientific evidence to show that badger culling has played any part in reductions in England.

Sad to see trees at Festival Gardens struggling due to heat stress and drought; and the liner in the largest pond has leaked for years, but now even the smaller ponds and the streams have dried up. 🤞 for some rain soon.
Perennial sow-thistle (large yellow flowers, green stems and leaves) with a couple of bees on the flowers. A line of trees showing yellowing, dying leaves due to heat stress; the grass in front is almost white. The largest pond is now totally empty, just the liner and some pebbles remain, with trees behind. What looks like a twiggy path with trees on either side but is/was actually a stream.
