In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

It is important to note how the framework of this piece mirrors social media in many ways. We can watch the horrors of the world play out before us at the click of a button. True to life the audience of this story takes a very passive role. And maybe that’s the real horror here.

I think it’s important to note the role that horror plays in #resistance. Our reactions stem from our deepest fears as well as love. When you see those fears play out before your very eyes, how will you respond? Kudos to @jennifleck.bsky.social for a horrifyingly human tale!

I should probably remind people that I had a novel called GIRL IN THE CREEK come out about a month and a half ago. It got a star in the Library Journal! And look at this awesome blurb from @keithrosson.bsky.social:
Against a green background and just to the left of the cover for GIRL IN THE CREEK, a blurb: Dazzling. GIRL IN THE CREEK is unflinching eco-horror, steeped in the pitch-perfect setting of the rainswept Pacific Northwest. I devoured it even though it gutted me, and it solidifies that Wagner is an absolutely electrifying writer.

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

This piece of resistance by Rich Larson takes compliance to a whole new level! While resistance takes centre stage, it also says something about the inevitability of this ultimate fate. The path of conquest, destruction, and overpowering greed is one of self fulfilling prophecy. #resist
