At a panel on AI slop and got this email. This is the cost, making hundreds of thousands of people a day try to decide if they are talking to a real person or not.
Hi Damon,
I know you are likely not actively job searching, so l will keep this brief.
Your progression from digital newsroom leadership into product management, particularly building McClatchy's product organization and establishing its first Product Design and UX Research teams, stood out for a very specific reason.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

Kant’s Categorical Imperative includes the Formula of the Universal Law and the Formula of Humanity. Act as if your choice/act will be repeated by everyone; treat other people as an end not a means. AI is the perfect tool to violate both laws.

Slander is spoken; libel is written. But this isn't either of those. It's detailed reporting from a respected outlet with damning evidence. And "most consequential Commerce Secretary in modern history" is as impressive as "shortest NBA player from Luxembourg"
Speaking on behalf of Lutnick, the White House said: "The BBC's pathetic and desperate attempt to slander Secretary Lutnick will do nothing to change the fact that he has been the most consequential Commerce Secretary in modern history."

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

I’m glad more people are pointing this out. I talked about it it a few weeks ago w/ @janus.bsky.social Companies are attempting a sleight of hand where they capture data but argue because of how it’s processed it’s not “recording” and is thus private. They are still surveillance devices!

We can’t just change the definition of ‘recording’
Soon, asking “Does this device have a camera?” won’t be good enough.
