This is a free verse poem written in response to several Bsky writing prompts as inspired by a recent post by @aetherread.bsky.social, which reads:

Taking a deep breath.
Veneration. Vertigo.
For the heart is a rotating star.
Black veil. Be yourself. Beyond.
0xE7134974

---------------

My poem in black text on white background:

you asked me once
(maybe twice)
to sail with you beyond the beyond
barely an inhale, my dizzied response:
need you even ask

…at that moment these two hearts
fused and inseparable
wildly spun, efferent
a LAMOST, almost
our galactic tilt-a-whirl

then

you bade me to live
though black lace was preferable
i couldn’t see the point
-still don’t some days-
me being my Self without you

so

i stand in awe of the Cosmos
waiting for a pulsar’s flash
to signal me: now, child
cross the crack between worlds
when the veil is its thinnest…

you asked me once again
(maybe twice)
to sail with you beyond the beyond
barely an inhale, my dizzied response:
need you even ask

---------------

“An astronomer has found the fastest spinning star known in our galaxy… and it's a doozy. It's rotating at the dizzying speed of at least 540 kilometers per second. In fact, if it were spinning much faster, it would tear itself apart!

The star is called LAMOST J040643.69+542347.8, but let's call it J0406 for short. It's located about 30,000 light years from us, toward the outer edge of the galaxy.”

Cloud covers moon in milky cataract, her stars hung loosely on a night threaded lanyard. We are a tiny thump of a heart beneath incomprehension. Mysteries above us that we can only throw wishes at. Time already passed, we are a hope with one step in the future. #vssdaily lanyard #vss365 cataract

An old leafless tree growing out of a rock outcropped overhang. Standing tall next to a brand new pine - two beautiful silhouettes against the foggy forest backdrop.

Hanging on a crimson red wall in a restaurant’s bathroom.

Photo of Anthony Bourdain lounging on some beat up furniture along a beautiful coastline in B&W. (Photographer unknown)Captured on a restaurant’s bathroom wall. Framed quote signed by Anthony Bourdain.

Reads: “Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride.”

I call them the two sisters. They listen well when you need to vent and teach you about the seasons should you ask. That's the thing about nature, people seldom ask and yet trees are always willing to answer. #poetry #photography 📷 by me

A close-up of a flowering Ourisia macrophylla (North Island mountain foxglove) spotted just off the trail leading up a slope of Taranaki Maunga (Mt. Egmont).

From the wiki: "Plants of this species of New Zealand foxglove are showy, perennial, large-leaved, tufted, rhizomatous herbs that are often glabrous (hairless) or sometimes hairy with non-glandular or glandular hairs. They have crenate, ovate to heart-shaped leaves. The flowers are in whorls in each node, with a regular calyx, and a large, white irregular corolla. The corolla tube is yellow with three lines of yellow hairs inside." and "Ourisia macrophylla plants are large, showy, hairy perennials with whorls of flowers with large white corollas, and three lines of yellow hairs inside the corolla tube, characters they share with another New Zealand species, O. crosbyi."

All is know is this: PREEEEEEEETTY 🌼🤍

Your bird disguise was more dragon, umbrella skin and bones for wings. Toothy beak. Mine mostly ideas of flight, feathered with scribbled pages. But the crows let us join their storytelling. You heard strange tales of shiny treasures beyond reach. I heard secrets of the sky. #ThingsToWriteAbout

On the trail's mid-way point/platform, and peering thru the dense forest's window frame, one is presented with a stunning view of Wairēinga/Bridal Veil Falls. 55 m/180 ft in height, the falls splash land into a large pool of water at its base, carved over time.

"Waireinga means leaping waters, referring to wairua (spirits) leaping the great height of this waterfall. Waireinga is also spiritually known by tangata whenua (people of the land) to be occupied by Patupaiarehe (Maori fairies) who are kaitiaki (guardians) of the area."
