We need entry-threshold grant lottery systems with easy-to-estimate and easy-to-write basis - plus a basic-incoming grant basis. The latter will be very efficient in its use, the former will be just as 'good' as the current systems in its decisions, but far less wasteful in writing and reviewing.

I am INCREDIBLY lucky to get to be an astronomer as my day job - and if it has taught me anything, it is that 99.99999999999% of our Universe is an inhospitable shithole. This blue speck in a sea of darkness is the only place we have, and we should really start treating it like that.

Butterflies have notoriously convoluted mushroom body lobes, and their organisation is far from clear. A meticulous analysis of intracellular fills and immunohistochemical stainings brings now some order into the lobes and their primary sensory input.
