Design systems have a bright future ahead of them. They will serve as the vocabulary and grammar for GenAI to write programs. They will make the difference between receiving cobbled-together spaghetti code, that is at best suitable for prototypes, and getting scalable, production-ready code.

Currently working on a WordPress template – first with Gemini and then with ChatGPT – and it feels like working with someone who’s just as clueless but doesn’t want to admit it. It’s my first time coding with AI that I’ve felt I’m better off alone.

Very likely did Figma play a role here. But out of good intentions. We simply needed a tool that was good at handling Design Systems. Sketch and XD never got that right. But then there come along too many people who obsess about tools and suddenly the tool becomes the thing.

Das ist richtig. Aber die hatten es in der Sache ja einfacher, weil sie alle Änderungen durch die Pandemie weghaben wollten. und es geht ja nicht darum, wer der Arrogantere war, sondern warum wir es nicht geschafft haben, viele Menschen besser mitzunehmen.

Dass die BILD hier eine ganz eigene Agenda verfolgt hat und sich damit die Spinner legitimiert & amplifiziert gefühlt haben, ist ein riesiger Faktor. Aber wir müssen uns auch an die eigene Nase fassen. Viele haben verunsicherte Menschen einfach von oben herab belehrt als sie empatisch mitzunehmen.

Dass sich im Laufe der Pandemie die Lügner und die Entsolidarisierer immer stärker durchsetzen konnten, dass sie damit durchkamen, ihren Egoismus als "Freiheit" zu deklarierten und dass sie Wissenschaft "Ideologie" nennen durften, davon haben sich Deutschland und die Welt immer noch nicht erholt.

Und wir haben sie gelassen. 😔Tatsächlich hätte aus der Pandemiezeit so viel Gutes bei rauskommen können für die Gesellschaft. Von sozialem Zusammenhalt bis zu einfach mal ne Maske tragen wenn man krank ist. Und punktuell ist das auch passiert. Aber das große Ganze, das haben sie kaputt geschrien.

This hits a lot of the notes I've been shouting from the rooftops: the frictionlessness of both producing and consuming slop, and the value of labor as friction that lets us slow down and think. Rather than "unlocking creativity" it's rendering our collective creativity down into a big vat of slop.

Weil bei Konzernen fast alles darauf abzielt den Status Quo zu optimieren anstatt einen Wandel zu gestalten. Die sind gut darin, aus einem Milliardengeschäft noch 0,2% mehr Rendite rauszuquetschen. Wer neue Sachen startet wird da immer kritisch in Richtung eines möglichen Scheiterns beäugt.
