Unlike many here, I grew up in the land known for scams, so I have seen some things. Affinity scammers will use anything to get you to donate, especially if you show that you care for/are part of the marginalized. Due diligence helps, but don’t feel bad if scammed.

My only, constant contribution to scam discourse is: anything good can be scammed. It is good to verify and vet if you want money to go directly to people (and even then, scammers can “pass” verification). Promoting a collectivist way of life doesn’t mean leaving your brain at the door.

Admit a flaw about yourself (if you feel like it) I'm a chronic people pleaser. Sometimes it makes me feel like I have a place to belong, but mostly it leads to burn-out and offering what I don't have the capacity to give. Thankfully, my "boundaries" muscle is a lot stronger than it used to be.
