tl;dr I'm sure other people noticed your work, and you shouldn't judge your worth based on how many people tune in to listen to you talk over video games. I'm sure you already know that but it bears repeating. Sorry for how long this thread got. Hope you're doing well.

But also, screw Twitch, and you don't have to stream if you don't want to. At the end of the day it's a hobby, and if you're not enjoying yourself then there's no point. (It also doesn't help how hard it is to enjoy yourself when the 'hobby' pushes so hard for monetization...)

I think it's saying something that I remember all of the stuff I just listed. I'm sure there's some work I forgot or didn't notice, but I'm also sure there's some entire streamers I've watched and forgotten by now, and you're sticking out a lot better than them in my memory.

And that's without mentioning unique event streams like the game shows! There's a lot of streamers out there that do mostly the same thing every stream (and that's fine) but you were clearly pushing to keep things as fresh as possible.

For what it's worth, I thought there was clearly a lot of work going into your streams. Making all those outfits takes a lot of time, and the Govt. Assigned Fursona redeem in particular takes more effort than most (and it's a great bit). Assets (like your png, or Lillie) got improved over time, too.

It doesn't look like there's VOD support either (understandably), so if I start regularly streaming on Altstream I'll need to get on top of uploading to YouTube. Which I should have been doing already. Oops. www.youtube.com/@wobblefowlv...

One minor downside right now is that chatting currently requires you to authenticate your account by linking it to either Discord or Twitch. The staff have said they're unhappy with it and trying to find a better solution.
A screenshot from the Altstream Discord. Mara, a staff member, says:
"its a lot of extra work to scale this project without using cloud services, but plenty of people like yourself have expressed concern that we would ultimately still be using amazon or microsoft services. as of right now, the only link we have is the Oauth using twitch as a means of trying to keep signups legitimate. and we are looking to try and move away from that as soon as we can find a good alternative that keeps the site and all of y'all safe."

Yeah, I like the look of this so far. It doesn't have an API for channel point redeems yet, but other than that it has basically every major thing I want. The staff are anti-AI and pro-FOSS, which is very refreshing! I'll be doing a test stream at some point at altstream.online/wobblefowl

Waiting for @altstream.online to come back online so I can investigate it 👀 It looks like it has everything I want, just have to make sure it's not too good to be true... if not, I go back to the self-hosting plan

Yes! Owncast is the main one I've been looking at, but I'm not fond of how they handle user verification; I just don't think most casual users will be willing to use IndieAuth. Using Owncast for the stream and finding some other solution for chat has been my plan.

Trying to workshop the idea of a Stream Creator Platform Cooperative. The goal would not be a "competitor" per se for major platforms, but rather a creator-owned and democratically-operated alternative, with core ethical guidelines.

Anyway, if this is a project you're interested in pursuing I'd be happy to help in any way I can. Unfortunately I have very little web design experience, but I do have a background in graphic design!

Many bots like MixItUp are also tied to specific services, so there's some more tools that would no longer work. Personally, I think it's worth the price. It does make migration more difficult, though.

Having a shared website is an improvement there, even if it's just a few other streamers! Twitch also has some nifty built-in moderation tools that would either be missing or have to be recreated. The lack of random traffic actually helps a bit here, but brigades and dedicated weirdos still exist.
110
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
Obviously evasion still exists on Twitch, but it sucks to not have all those cool emotes you paid for, and switching between accounts depending on what stream you're watching is annoying. Best you can do alone is hope an IP ban sticks, or have some major barrier to entry before you can chat.
110
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
The biggest issue from my perspective (outside of the obvious discoverability problem) seems to be things involving user registration, chat, and moderation. Banning someone on Twitch is more effective because you're more tied to your account; you use it on other channels. Not so if you're alone.

So if I'm understanding right, kind of like Nebula? I've been so fed up with Twitch/Amazon that I've already been looking into self-hosting streams on a dedicated website. Being a part of something like this would definitely be preferable to that!

Yeah, unfortunately the only novel I remember all that well is Book of Atrus. I'm due for a reread too.

Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
However, it IS possible to modify a book later. This actually does add new features to a world, like the Moiety daggers in Riven. So could you make a person with that? No idea. I don't think the series addresses that, but there could easily be some relevant detail somewhere I've forgotten.

Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
So if I'm understanding the question right, no, a Descriptive Book does not create the native inhabitants of an Age. They were already there.
100
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Atrus believes in the 'connecting' idea, and came to that on his own after first being taught Gehn's view. This is after he notices animals residing in Ages despite never being written in, and cultures having histories/memories that predate the writing of their Age. IIRC D'ni also believed this.
100
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
A good chunk of the first novel is about how Gehn 'writes' his books by stealing excerpts from existing books and stitching them together, without any deeper understanding of the actual text. (...hm.) Atrus understands enough to write his books from scratch, so I trust him on this one:

Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
I haven't read the novels in a while either, but I'll try my best. The character most associated with the 'descriptive books create worlds' idea is Gehn, who has a god-complex and is shown to have a very limited understanding of the Art.

That forced link at the end is NASTY HE CALLS YOU 'GUILDSMAN'. D'NI-SET PREQUEL AND DUDE'S THREATENING YOU WITH A FOUNTAIN PEN. HE'S GONNA WRITE IN THAT LINKING BOOK WITH YOU IN THE AGE OH MY GOD ...and other sentences that are meaningless to someone who doesn't know Myst

This isn't even just to be nice (although that should already be enough). I'm willing to bet that if you ran the numbers it leads to more sales!

I think, whenever possible, games should have a demo available. More often than not, when I'm unsure of whether I'll like something and I try the demo first, I leave wanting the game more than I did before. And make the demo long. Long enough for me to get really invested, like an hour or two.
151
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
I was going to correct you on this and say to just play the demo, which is about an hour long... but it turns out they delisted it after Steam Next Fest ended? Gross move

Some of my favorite stories are ones that are simple and upfront about their intentions, but the artistry is in *how* they're told. I worry there's a lot of other people like the person I talked to, especially with the big focus on 'lore' and 'theories' right now.
110
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 05/06/2026
One of the strangest conversations I've ever had about art was with someone who disliked most fiction because it was "too easy to predict." Seeing stories only as a series of twists to be solved and getting mad when you're right is just... so alien to me. I think about that conversation a lot.

Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
I know about friendship values, which do address this, but there's still some part of it all that feels wrong to me. I wish I could put my finger on the exact problem and come up with a cool solution but I don't have one.

Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Share-less gets slightly closer to that fantasy but obviously has other aspects that feel awful. Maybe it's a me problem, and I should just force myself to cycle through my mons! But I do feel like there has to be some more interesting mechanic that would make it work more naturally.

So I DO use exp share, and I don't like grinding. But it bothers me that sometimes I'll passively level up Pokemon that I barely interact with, and never get to know until I need them. It feels so impersonal; I want to get to know my Pokemon over time and have them be strong because of that.

exactly! this is the kind of thing that would lift the wizard's curse. ridiculous? yes! useless! yes! selfless! no! it's perfect

I was originally considering "I give all the money to the Jim Henson Company to make as many Dark Crystal sequels as they want" but that felt a little too selfless
010
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
For example, if I answer "I hire the Jim Henson Company's puppeteers to hang out with me in-character as the Muppets for a full week", then yeah, it's self-serving and ridiculous. But it's not evil.
1272
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
If it helps, you could see the challenge as finding the least harmful action while still meeting the requirements of being selfish + suitably ridiculous. Really though, it's "what's the silliest thing you could do with lots of money" with a condition that filters out realistic, unwhimsical answers.
191
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
That's the punishment for not following the initial rules, becoming evil isn't a requirement. In fact, the premise hinges on the assumption that you will avoid being an asshole creatively. Then, after you've performed one silly action, the curse is broken and you can return to being selfless.
130
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
Also, Idiocracy's premise depends on the idea of 'stupid people' reproducing more than 'smart people' leading to humanity becoming less intelligent, a concept originally proposed by eugenicists. That's not what people are usually thinking of when they talk about the movie, but it's there!
121
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
When people say "Idiocracy is a documentary" they don't mean it literally, they're joking that it resembles reality so closely that it may as well be one. It's hyperbole. The issue here is that 'documentary' shouldn't be used as shorthand for realism.

Okay but what about these words
An article on the Star Wars wiki titled 'Evar Orbus and His Galactic Jizz-Wailers'.
"Evar Orbus and His Galactic Jizz-Wailers were a jizz band founded by Evar Orbus, featuring Max Rebo, Sy Snootles, and Droopy McCool. Their hits included '(That Joyous Night) I Ate My Mate.'"

Special mention goes to this specific action figure of Luke from Shadows of the Empire
An action figure of Luke Skywalker, with 'Shadows of the Empire' branding on the box. He is wearing a red suit of armor that never appears in the movies.

My #1 s are probably R5-D4 and Max Rebo though
110
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 04/05/2026
And I can do a whole list of droids! R5s (especially R5-D4), T3s (still canon!), BX commandos, gonks and plunks, tread droids There's a few in there that are maybe too prominent for glup shittos but would feel wrong not to include. Also B2-EMO for sure doesn't fit but deserves a mention anyway
110
Wobblefowl @wobblefowl.bsky.social · 04/05/2026
I have too many: Max Rebo, Ark "Bumpy" Roose, Garindan, Boushh, the B'omarr monks, Geode... Hell, Captain Phasma could probably be one by now just for how little attention the sequel era gets
