The second I saw the pic, I knew we were talking about the laugh a minor part that is GE999.
A picture from an episode of Galaxy Express 999, where a young boy finds a face-down dying body in the sewer of his mother, wounded while acting in a rebellion on their planet.

Coming from the unquiet mind of comic book mad genius Steve Gerber, with designs by Alex Toth and Jack Kirby, THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN premiered on ABC Saturday mornings OTD in 1980, with far-too-few 21 episodes being produced. Should have run for years.

I wish they'd stop asking stuff like this to him. He's just gonna say this kind of thing to A) Get a Reaction and B) because they want a headline "Sir, do you think you might detonate a nuclear bomb on Maine?" "I could. No one says I can't. Some people in Maine probably want it. I'm very smart."

All of which is a LOT of words to say: I think AI has some good uses, but a LOT of bad ones and many are unethical or just cheat the users of it from valuable knowledge and experiences that they would otherwise benefit from. If you can't do it with AI, it means you didn't REALLY want to do it.

AI use in the arts is like that. It's often lazy. And it's soul destroying. It will likely get better over time, but it won't erase the things it takes away from artists. (and good grief, we're not even getting into the TRAINING THEFT aspect of GenAI, that's a whole 'nother thing).

Humans are IDEA MACHINES. It's the work behind that Idea that matters. JM Straczyinki once described his time on Murder She Wrote as head writer. One writer came in to pitch an episde - the pitch? "AMNESIA!" JMS replied "Yes...and?" but that was it. The guy thought THAT single word was enough.

I understand wanting to use AI to shortcut the creative process...but many folks using it are the same guys who suggest that they had an idea, so you should give them tons of creative labor for 'exposure', because their idea is somehow the equal of all these skilled efforts like art and writing

Youtube tried to offer me AI generated thumbnails. They were nonsensical, because AI didn't - couldn't - understand the content of my videos. It got it kind of right, but then amazingly wrong at the same time and it made me feel bad just looking at it.

Recently I needed to learn a new skill - video editing. I am BAD at it...but I didn't ask AI to do it. I wanted to know HOW for me. If I let Youtube do it, I'm giving my creative choices to someone else...and their choices are going to be based on whatever already exists, not something new.

And I get it - AI tools make a lot of things very easy. It's tempting. But they cheat you. And worse, they empower the lazy and the unscrupulous and poison the well. Scammers and their ilk have found it an invaluable tool to produce slop, a term that is so prevalent because the problem is so big

Evanier explained he ACTUALLY was paying for 30 years of experience that allowed Aragones to draw such a detailed sketch in a mere 5 minutes. Artists, writers, designers, athletes and others may have a headstart in a skill - BUT THEY NEED TO TRAIN AND HONE IT TO BE REALLY GOOD. AI doesn't do that.

WizarDru loves Boardgames @wizardru.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Mark Evanier tells a story where he was with Sergio Aragones at Comicon. A fan paid for a Sketch of Groo the Wanderer for a fee - Aragones dutifully sketched one in 5 minutes. The fan was non-plussed. Why should I pay that much for 5 minutes of work?

Ideas are EASY. Implementing them requires effort. Saying you CAN'T do it often is a way of saying that what you mean is that you DON'T WANT TO SPEND THE TIME TO LEARN how to do it. That it's not that important to do it the long way around. The assumption is that it's making up for natural talent.

When I see Kickstarters by people who think just the act of having an idea means that they should just get the thing and then use AI to do it? They don't understand that people who do what they want do didn't just do it, they organically learned how to do it.

I've spent several years working on some boardgames, with hopes of publishing them. It's been a creative process and not always easy, but it WAS rewarding. My second game was easier than my first and I gained skills and knowledge as I went. There is value in growing your talent.

Image generation is very much like the One Ring. Even attempts to use it for good will be tainted and eventually lead to ruin. Not only will your work not be your own, you will lose so much - the act of creation is process, often a learning one. Even when AI might help you, it's cheating you of that

WizarDru loves Boardgames @wizardru.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
AI video and image generators have accelerated the 'death of truth' that has slowly been evolving since the 80s, when Photoshop became available, but now it's in the hands of everyone - allowing people with no scruples to do terrible things and it's very tiring.
100
WizarDru loves Boardgames @wizardru.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
LLMs and image generators don't innovate, merely iterate - so some uses of AI are painfully obvious and ugly to look at. We've all seen the flood of terrible menus and public annoucement posters lately, so uninspired and samey. Likewise the tons of graphics and cartoons using AI's cartoony style.

However I do so because, like Google itself, it's FREE. It has some use at that utility level - but when it stops being subsidized by venture capitalists, who are expecting a big return on an INEVITABLE system - will become much less prevalent and will quietly start disappearing from many places.

LLMs and Generative-AI have their places and I don't think it's fair to say that they have no use. I know many coders who consider Claude to have increased their productivity dramatically. I have used Gemini and Claude to search technical databases and drill down on obscure technical questions.

I see many folks rightly reject 'AI' and it's usage, and I broadly agree. (Let's take it as read that they actually mean LLMs and Generative-AI, not things like Neural Networks, despte how OpenAI and Anthropic try to pretend they've accidentally made sentient systems, as opposed to giant chatbots).

My hope is that many Youtubers creators leave these tools unused. I feel that AI has some legitimate uses, such as assisting in code development or enhanced searches of trained data (such as tech support), but it cannot create, EVER. It is a poison pill and a devil's bargain for creatives.

If you want to see Ben Kingsley as an absolute SOCIOPATH - hypnotic, compelling and quietly TERRIFYING - you need to see this movie. It's got a murderer's row of talent - Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Julianne White. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I wondered...didn't restoration's kickstarter finally land? Scrolled all the way down the page and I'm guessing non-normal idiots don't like this?

Introducing Gurpo
A drawing of a small blobby figure inside of an enclosure with string coming off it, with text saying "introducing Gurpo, the new wearable personal assistant. Gurpo is not a computer program, he's a real tiny guy who is trapped inside your medallion necklace.
Gurpo hates you, but is incapable of doing anything about it, and he has to answer your questions or he gets electrocuted. It's non-lethal.
If you shake his enclosure hard enough, gurpo will throw up!"

FWICT, there's a host of impediments. Shipping Iron from MN to IA will be difficult and expensive (no direct waterways). IA need to pass massive tax package to pay for it. They're promising to break ground in a month (unlikely cuz regulations, etc). Also: history of lies, re:FOXCONN

PRIMETIME. I had a lot of fun with this. I could see it being compared to NIGHTCRAWLER, but what it really made me think of was last year's THE SMASHING MACHINE or maybe even THE IRON CLAW— men trapped in their own mythology, terrified of the failure and irrelevance that might be waiting outside it.
