The second I saw the pic, I knew we were talking about the laugh a minor part that is GE999.

When I see Kickstarters by people who think just the act of having an idea means that they should just get the thing and then use AI to do it? They don't understand that people who do what they want do didn't just do it, they organically learned how to do it.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I wondered...didn't restoration's kickstarter finally land? Scrolled all the way down the page and I'm guessing non-normal idiots don't like this?

This weekends painting project was to paint these ‘minis’ for #Trilaterum. Showa-era Godzilla and Gigan are spot-on. I have dubbed the order two Not-Jaguar and MEH-Doran, the Smug Monster.

Chuck, upon learning which movie he watched:
George Clooney as Ulysses Everertt McGill from "Oh Brother, Where art thou", the Coen Brothers movie re-imagining the classic poem 'The Odyessy' as a Depression-era travel movie. He is standing in a barn, looking out at police pursuit (he is at that moment a fugitive from a chain gang) and saying 'Damn! We're in a tight spot!' - a phrase he repeats several times during his adventure. He is a Dapper Dan man.

I also bet when he says he 'intends to display it in Times Square' that he hasn't looked into permits or any of the requirements allowing him to do it. Fearless Girl may have appeared suddenly, but it was commisioned.
The statue 'Fearless Girl', a bronze statue placed on Wall Street in front of it's famous Bull Statue, to promote gender diversity within the financial world, commisioned by State Street investment. It's surprise appearance made a lot of news stories. It was moved when the Bull statue's sculptor complained that it had made his statue 'a negative force', so it was relocated further down Wall Street. State Street backed away from it along with its other diversity efforts and there is concern about it's future.

I'm super late to getting into #Shadowdark, but great goddamn I like this passage. I think we're gonna be friends.
From the Shadowdark manual: "THE PACT -You and your players are gaming together to have fun, prop each other up, and strengthen bonds.
This is The Pact.
The Pact is often unspoken and unseen, but it is always felt. It is based on goodwill, respect, and fellowship.
Its enemies are selfishness, antagonism, and arrogance.
Decisions made to defend The Pact are always good ones."

Lavender Jack by @danschkade.bsky.social is filled with so many good characters, they can very no favorites, but DAMN I love Detective Madame Ferrier. She’s smart, but sympathetic to people, burdened with tragedy but still committed to truth. I love this comic SO DAMN MUCH.

@katebeaton.bsky.social knows something of youthful Kings and their exuberance.
A comic strip by Katen Beaton from her 'Hark, A Vagrant' comics. A monk is talking to a Edward, the Black Prince after the Battle of Crecy. The monk asks how Edward is feeling, to which he replies "BRO I AM STOKED" and 'Those French Guys were like WHOOOOAAA', to which the monk, who is recording the event for posterity says "I keep forgetting you are Sixteeen" and Edward yells "and my army was like 'EAT IT'! Today on Shocked!, Shocked!...well, not that Shocked: about 0.1% of users on Polymarket and Kalshi actually take in about 67% of the profits from prediction markets. The WSJ article about it isn't surprising - it's the Defi/Meme stock game all over again - It's sad, but not a surprise.
Graphic from the Wall Street Journal of user accounts in Polymarket and showing that only 0.1% of accounts earn 67% of the profits on the predictive markets they host. The remaining 33% of the profits is dividied up through about 25% of the remaining users.

There is character in Marvel comics called Stegron, a scientist who becomes a dinosaur ABs uses his knowledge to do it to other people. THAT is Elon Musk, really. He doesn’t want to solve cancer, he wants to turn people into dinosaurs. That’s fun. Stopping famine? Meh. 5/5

I will bang this drum on the regular - the Flash Gordon daily strip by @danschkade.bsky.social is a masterclass in short form storytelling. The art and text just do so much in a small space. Hopefully we'll get print collections eventually, ...and that will be a great day. Also: Bok is GREAT

I wonder if a lot of the stuff Claremont got through was because Shooter was too much a straight square to see it. I mean, it's barely subtext here:
A series of panels from an Alan Davis drawn issue of Excalibur. It's Kitty Pryde's birthday and she and Courtney Ross (secretly the villainess Saturnyne) are taking about celebrating - and while talking, eating frosting off of Courtney's finger in a very suggestive sequence.

Nah, he was already huge a few years before this. Wolverine was a breakout character (in part because he was a favorite of John Byrne's) and he became THE character after 1980's Hellfire Club issues, at the least. Cerberus was already parodying his popularity a year before Secret Wars.

In 'Angry Planet', the couple get a stay on a planet where everyone has no filter and get angry VERY easily. At the same time, Duke Mech -friend of Count Mecha from episode 1, apparently- has sent assassins to kill Tetsuro. Maetel is in full bad-ass mode this time out, thankfully. 8/20

So I continue on my watch-through of #GalaxyExpress999 - and it remains depressingly appropriate to the current moment. And while it has its flaws both narratively and culturally (it IS almost 50 years old now), it remains a solid and enjoyable watch that holds my attention. 1/20
Picture of two robed figures of whom no features can be seen, one a tall one with a green shroud and a much shorter one in a blue shroud, staning near a door in a train car on the Galaxy Express. The taller one, the mother, is saying "My son, for whatever reason, said he wouldn't take your body." While it is not immediately obvious here, they are ghosts from the planet Filament.

In both episodes watched (28 and 29), the classic question: 'WHY ARE YOU EVEN GETTING OFF THE TRAIN HERE?'. First is the Planet of Mirages, a hot desert planet. Maetel switches to a bathing suit, but Tetsuro doesn't strip down. The second's a hot jungle, but she stays wearing her normal outfit. 2/7

As I continue my slow roll through #GalaxyExpress999, I find that the show remains both utterly ridiculous and incredibly engaging. In hindsight, the concept of the show is kind of outrageous: there's no toy sales here, no easy answers; only a small recurring cast and big ideas. 1/

A reminder that the Flash Gordon daily comic is REALLY FRIGGING GOOD and you should read it. @danschkade.bsky.social has made me care about Flash and his world for the first time since the 1980 Michael Hodges film. But that was high camp and this is High Adventure. comicskingdom.com/flash-gordon...

Episode 21 introduces Pirate Queen Emerldas (recently in Captain Harlock) into GE999. Maetel's rivalry in the past with here is referenced without any explanation. It's fun, but kind of a shaggy dog story. 15/30

The fact that Peter Parker used to dress like this and referenced that hot young actress Mia Farrow lives rent-free in my head.
A picture of Peter Parker from Spider-Man in 1970, wearing a yellow vest with tassels on them, evoking a cowboy outfit. Beneath that he's wearing a black shirt and blue slacks, with purple socks and brown leather penny-loafers, thinking to himself that he has a chance to 'do what Peter Parker does best', which in this case is to change into his Spider-Man costume and rescue someone.
