Apparently in my area, it’s the season when wasps are looking to the sugary things on my plate & in my glasses, the larvae to whom they used to feed meat in exchange for sweet treats having grown up & gone. Yesterday, as it licked root beer off the edge of a glass, I saw a wasp’s TONGUE. #TinyJoys

I watched a golden lab at CDN Tire today, wagging its tail happily as it gazed up at this:
An 8-foot tall animatronic werewolf wearing a plain shirt & dark pants, with furry paws & chest and a huge head with open mouth, stands in a shop display in front of other hallowe'en items. Occasionally it moves & roars, but I didn't catch that.

To be fair, in renaming a lake, Trump follows the tradition of white men across time who grant themselves authority to erase names for their own pride. And who see themselves as heroes. Which doesn’t mean that jackass belongs any place but a prison cell. For way more reasons than this. #LakeOntario

Today's happy things: *hot tea & soft mornings *cardinals at the feeder *fresh ripe tomatoes & cucumbers in the garden (& other veg too) *gazpacho & BLTs using garden produce (& my own mayo!) *yesterday's pickling went well! #TinyJoys #SmallOrdinaryMagic
Glass canning jars sit on a quartz counter, filled with newly pickled cucumbers, some sliced into long quarters & some into rings for sandwiches. The lids & rings are on. Most of the pickles are their natural colour, but a couple of the jars contain pickles of a deep pink hue, the liquid coloured by adding a small piece of beet at the bottom.

Canada Day. The country is more aspirational than accomplished in terms of human rights, environmental safeguards, reconciliation/reparation for historical wrongs, health care and education systems. Aspirations are worth celebrating, though: equity, freedom, compassion, wisdom, safety for all.

Few things feel as good as a cleansing shower after a full day of working in a hot sunny garden. #TinyJoys Except maybe, after the shower, sitting outside in a gorgeous backyard, with clean clothes & a cool drink. #SmallOrdinaryMagic #Summertime Photo of my *filthy* feet for my own amusement.
Shot from above, the filthy feet of a white woman (with dark blue nail polish chipping off & silver toe rings), just prior to a shower & just after a day doing garden work, standing on pale buttery beige tiles. In my defense, I was WEARING shoes & socks and my feet STILL got this dirty.

A young coyote generously let me practice with my telephoto lens by being terribly photogenic for about fifteen minutes last evening. It even had a sit-down & scritch while it watched me (standing very far away).
A young spring-skinny coyote with grey & white fur and a brown muzzle & ears in mid-step, one paw lifted, its mouth open as it chews some greens. It stands in a grassy space amongst dandelions & violets.

Last night, I cut lilac & crabapple blossoms for the front hall table. This morning, I could smell them from the bedroom upstairs. #TinyJoys #SmallOrdinaryMagic
A square glass vase, framed by brass candle holders & standing on a black table in my front hall, is barely visible for the cloud of purple lilacs & two large stems of crabapple blossoms. The blossoms are a deep pink that match the paint on my walls, technically called "paprika lily" but properly known in my home as "drama queen pink". Both crabapple & lilac blooms are scenting up my little home.
