It shouldn't be possible to find 57 men at a college who are willing to be in the rape chat, yet here we are. And complaining that men are the ones who are being treated unfairly in the face of an outcry about a gang rape puts you squarely in the 'prospective rape chat invitee' category.

Nobilis. I love the 3rd Ed rules, but I miss the hilariously overwrought ambiance of the Great White Book (and the amazing margin notes):

I'm honestly not sure I would have seen anything disturbing about that Converse ad if it hadn't been pointed out. That's not saying it's not there, that's saying I'm extremely white, and that ad companies should hire more minorities to catch shit like this before publishing.

That's what makes it heroic. Trying to wrest control of a plane in flight away from armed hijackers when you can expect authorities to ransom it out would just be testosterone poisoning. "We'll probably die, but maybe we'll live and either way we'll save a lot of other people" is heroism.

The only responsible attitude for liberals and progressives to align on is that all right-wing grievances, claims and believes are not only false, but malicious lies. Nothing passes the mouth of an American conservative in public life that is not meant to harm and destroy the lives of millions.

*incredibly ugly wheezing sound* Jee-sus christ theplaylist.net/paul-schrade...
But speaking this weekend with The Playlist in Venice following the premiere of “The Basics of Philosophy,” Schrader offered a much more revealing explanation for how “Three Guns At Dawn” reached that point.

“I had originally written it about three Black brothers, all of whom are bad guys: a corrupt cop, a drug dealer, and a sexual criminal,” Schrader explained. “And they were all trying to kill each other. And Antoine Fuqua was going to produce it.”

According to Schrader, he and Fuqua then approached actors with the project and ran into a fundamental problem.

“We sent it out to actors, and no Black actors wanted to play in a movie where there are no good Black people,” he said. “And it sort of died. But then AI came along, and I didn’t need Black actors.”

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.

One especially important thing in this story: Maryam and her family have *offered to voluntarily leave the US,* the thing the government supposedly wants them to do. But the government has refused and demanded that they remain locked up indefinitely instead. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
What has happened to us was designed specifically to break our body and spirit. I am a mother, not a martyr, so I would always choose my son’s health and well-being over any dreams or aspirations I have. But even when we decided to make the difficult decision to asked to be allowed to voluntarily leave the United States—the place we consider our country and our home—the government not only opposed it but suggested that it would appeal any judicial decisions that grant us departure.

In other words, they want to continue our indefinite detention without any end in sight. But for what purpose? I have been asking myself that question over and over.

Looking at the bizarre societal hellscape that's been unearthed from beneath our ordinary lives, I feel a deep regret that Satoshi Kon was taken from us before he could hold a dark mirror up to all this madness. I have no idea what he'd have created, but I expect it would have been devastating.

The problem is that people believe lots of things that aren't important enough to change their votes for. Republicans in general are a coalition of single-issue voters. It doesn't matter if they're pro-gay marriage if they won't support it by voting against the thing they really care about.
