Dear young artist, Use reference. Anyone telling you otherwise has no interest in your development. Also, stop shrimping. Hydrate. I see you, and you need both. Love, An Artist further down the path.

Today's critter is this Leachie Gecko at my work that had projectile diarrhea while I was holding it and I managed to jump out of the way and didn't get a drop on me. Sometimes I take the little wins

Hand holding a large green gecko with wrinkly skin in front of a planted terrarium

Why do I insist on doing the most painting when the weather gets nice!!?? I want to lay in a field and bask like a lizard. Get these human feelings of creation and expression out of here. I want my reptilian brain back.

Any other oil painters out there who die a little inside when a painting is drying and mattes out so you can't see the depth or color again until you oil out or varnish it. I'm struggling here

Work in progress. When in doubt, purple. For a skate deck show here in Portland at the @adxportland.bsky.social in May.

Some of my favourite etchings from 2020. I've learned so much since then but never regained the productivity I had during lockdown. Only 2 weeks for a finished etching with 7h of focused work every day, crazy

Abandoned project with Makers Mark in 2023. They sent me a dozen barrel tops from their aging barrels to paint. It was a nightmare as I had to do so much prep work to make the surfaces even remotely paintable.

Every time some elected democrat sucks off Reagan, I think about Duane.

Duane Puryear holding the AIDS quilt panel he completed before his death. It reads "MY NAME IS DUANE KEARNS PURYEAR. I WAS BORN ON DECEMBER 20, 1964. I WAS DIAGONISED WITH AIDS ON SEPTEMBER 7, 1987 AT 4:45 PM. I WAS 22 YEARS OLD. SOMETIMES, IT MAKES ME VERY SAD. I MADE THIS PANEL MYSELF. IF YOU ARE READING IT. I AM DEAD..."

QRP with your artwork and share what other passions/jobs/hobbies you have I manage the animals at an independent pet store plus have a ton of my own critters. I breed and sell isopods and plants. I like being outside and in the sun.

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references. Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.
