It’s sad to learn that Richmond Night Market ends after this season. The 26-year-old annual event, which runs for the entire summer, has been an attraction to people across North America and beyond. I’m honoured to have covered federal small business minister Mary Ng’s visit to the market in 2019.

I was nominated for Emmys for the first time, thanks to a documentary about the Yat Sing Music Club, an 80-year-old Cantonese opera group, in Portland Chinatown. I didn’t win any trophy to bring home, but it’s still a great experience to dress nicely and cheer on colleagues who won.

Super grateful for getting nominated for an industry award since landing in the U.S. almost three years ago. Yat Sing Music Club was something I pitched not long after I joined OPB. It took more than a year to reach out to the club, arrange videography and produce/edit this mini-documentary.

RIP. I still remember him as the yakuza villain in Showdown in Little Tokyo. Tagawa reminds us of a time when Asian representation in Hollywood was glaringly stereotyped, but he also helped open up a path for more opportunities and more diverse portrayal of Asian American actors in years to come.

The saga is over: the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed today it had killed all the ostriches exposed to avian flu at a farm in BC’s Kootenay region. The CFIA’s plan to cull the birds, and its legal battle with the farmers, was so significant it triggered RFK Jr’s intervention.
