Perpetrators like to keep their misdeeds quiet forever because there's never much pushback against people who will never accept any amount of reflection, growth, or advocacy as sufficient for allowing them to re-enter civil society. What he did was wrong, but everything he's done since was right.

If you believe in rehabilitative justice, punishment only exists to encourage growth away from negative behaviors. It makes no sense to inflict new punishments for someone who has demonstrably grown from their past misdeeds, if there's no new behavior you want them to exhibit.

This comment makes zero sense. Of course he knew he was once part of the problem, the only thing he can do to try to atone for what he did (other than to never do it again, which seems to be the case) is to speak out more loudly against sexual misconduct in the future, so he did.

If punishment was too lightly applied at the time, I believe that should be corrected for future cases purely to better reduce recidivism. Harsher punishments shouldn't be retroactively applied for people who were fully cooperative and who changed themselves into someone who would never recidivate.
