Following on from yesterday's game zine blowout I dug these out this afternoon. From the US and only three issues (each slightly more pages and slicker than the last), they're anthologies of short comics based on games (and we're talking any games from any era) and the hit rate is pretty high.

For your delectation and delight, some vidyagamez fanzines. I miss these kind of lo-fi delights.

Found some stuff to play on it, too. Stuff yer GTA.

The cupboard under the stairs has unearthed the past! My first home computer with 32k extra. What a time to be alive.

I haven't had a haircut for a while and I've run out of razor blades.

Apparently, I'm one of these. I'm pretty sure it's a euphemism for something unsavoury.

I wouldn't even call myself a massive fan of the series but I do seem to have acquired this DVD box set from way back.

#randomgamesaturday delivers Tenchi Muyo! Game Hen, an RPG with an isometric perspective. I should try and play a translated version at some point.

Game box for the Super Famicom title - Tenchi Muyo! Game Hen. The box illustration features characters from the Japanese animated show the game is based upon.

How I imagine you just before you have to go out and check all the fruit.

That time when I was sent off to Toronto in 2005 to do a promo for Perfect Dark Zero where they blew up some concept images to a ridiculous size and had an art show. Never have I had to waffle nonsense to so many people for so long. It did not sit well.

An idiot stands in front of a big picture.

It's worth watching Kamen Rider MY-TH just to hear a guy pop out of a crystal egg to a chorus singing...

Rather nothing-y cover notwithstanding, today's #randomgamesaturday offering is WayForward's rather excellent Contra 4. I wish I could say that I have sampled all that it has to offer but, shssssshhh... I find it a bit hard.

Box for the Nintendo DS game - Contra 4. It features the usual beefy dudes shootin' stuff with an explosion behind them. Nothing to get excited about.

Posh family alert! Random Atari 800 spotting on the first episode of Chocky from 1984.

I stuffed my hand into the Game Boy drawer (always a favourite place for hand stuffing) and pulled out this gem for #randomgamesaturday. Still in good nick since I got it back in 1990 and with mindblowing graphics for a GB game of that era. Two tiny screenshots on the back sold to me in seconds.

Mr Observant, here, realising (after 40 odd years) that the artwork was different, as opposed to just being a colour swap, between the different versions of Alien 8 (it's different again on the Amstrad version). Did this happen on any other Ultimate games?

My first two tentative steps into anime beyond watching Battle of the Planets in the late '80s. Roman Albums were a great bang for your buck way of getting loads of art and screen grabs. For ages, I didn't have a clue what was going on in Minky Momo but my first two cats were named after her.

Been playing some Space Firebird this evening. I've been rubbish at it ever since we'd abuse the morning break at college in 1980 to sprint into town where one of the local record shops had a machine. Surely, this has to be the only pure Invaders-esqe shooter Nintendo ever did?

Back in the day my mate and I had a pact that we wouldn't get the same game so I never actually owned Axelay (and also Contra Spirits) until a lot later which explains why the boxes are a bit beat up.
