Back at the dome, awaiting the arrival of first Mark Shapiro and then Ross Atkins to tell us how accountable they are about #Bluejays second last-place finish in three seasons. We’ll break it all down for you here, @thestar.com and on Deep Left Field!
The podium awaits!

The baseball season is long, even when it ends after 162 games and not 180, like #Bluejays played last year. I usually catch a cold right as the season ends. This year’s hit me on the weekend - you can hear it on the newest episode of Deep Left Field. Last night, I appear to have slept it off:
CPAP machine screen showing that it was in use for 11 hours and 23 minutes last night with 2.1 events of apnea per hour, which is pretty high for me, though quite good for having a full nose.

Always sad to leave “the office” for another off-season. Would have been nice to have a little October baseball, but just like the vast majority of my 26 seasons on the full-time #Bluejays beat, we’re heading home after 162. You never know what the road ahead holds. Sure hope I’m back here in ‘27!
The empty Rogers Centre field, save for the grounds crew, as I head home after another season covering the Blue Jays. 26th on the beat full-time, 37th covering the Jays in some way, radio or newspaper.

Myles Straw puts the squeeze on a Hector Rodriguez fly ball to end #Bluejays 50th season. #Jays leave their fans with a good taste in their mouths heading into what promises to be a very long off-season. The end-of-season mailbag waits for you at deepleftfield@thestar.ca! Fill it up!

Of course George Springer is leading off in his last game as a #Bluejays and, maybe, the last game of what’s been a great career. Max Scherzer, too. Here’s #Jays final starting lineup of 2026, only the second time in the last seven seasons that we’ve come to the ballpark knowing that this was it:

My assignment tonight is to watch Trey Yesavage pitch here at Sahlen Field in Buffalo! Was looking forward to seeing Anthony Santander play, too, but he is not in the lineup. It’s his fourth straight day off after playing six innings in left field on Friday. #Bluejays

Vlad’s perspective on that very play, from today’s @thestar.com !!!
Quote from Guerrero after Thursday’s game, about the play to which Drew is referring:

“The same situation happened to me (Wednesday),” Guerrero said, recalling an Alejandro Kirk double-play ball in the sixth inning in which he was forced at second. “I think I did an OK job, but they got me out (and) I wasn’t pleased with my effort. So I talked it over with (first-base coach Mark) Budzinski and said that if that situation comes up again I’m going to make sure that I get there in time.”

There’s a protest going on, with some Clevelanders trying to get a senator who has voted 100% with Trump’s agenda unseated in November. This was my favourite sign. I told her I was Canadian, she asked if I have an extra bedroom.

They have renovated the players’ spaces here in Cleveland since I was here last. Used to be a quick trip up a flight of steps to get from the dugout to the visitors’ clubhouse. Now it’s a long walk that likely takes you all the way to the right-field corner. These signs are on each wall. #Bluejays

Hanging out at the CNE with my kids before today’s #Bluejays game. Lots of delicious things here, but nothing as delicious as the irony of using AI to promote recycling.
A picture of OSCARsort, the AI recycling assistant at the Food Building.

Because people can’t figure out recycling.

I will grant you, lots of people don’t recycle properly, but it’s because they don’t care, not because they can’t figure it out without AI.

#Bluejays are selecting their fantasy football draft order this morning. Every player in the FF league has drawn a staff member to serve as their proxy. Whichever staff member throws the hardest gets their player the to pick and so on down the line. Bullpen coach Sam Greene wins with 90.
